Info on the Sig P228 please

So I have the option of purchasing a Sig P228 West German. My main purpose is HD, SHTF, and range fun. I might be corrected, but I was under the impression the P228 was discontinued. I am worried about part availability mainly but anything else that may not be abundant. Is there anything that I should worry if I get it?
Is there some kind of CA or non-CA model that is better/worse?

Yes, Sig discontinued the P228. It's a nice gun and West German made Sigs are prized by many. Not sure about parts for it being hard to get. My buddy has one and bought a .22LR conversion for it.

Parts are very easy to find still. The P228 shares many parts with the P229 which is still in production.

Pretty much all you need can be found at Brownell's or here: http://www.topgunsupply.com/sig-sauer-p228-gun-parts/

Sometimes, a pistol is just a pistol; the P228 is a legend. If I was asked to choose between my P228 and a kidney, I'd be asking, "you want the left one or the right one?"

As mentioned, parts availability isn't much of an issue, due to its sharing of so many parts with the P229.

The balance, reliability and quality of the P228 are all legendary. If the price is right, I recommend you go for it. You will not regret it.

For anyone that owns one, is rust an issue for you? Do you have to baby it to make sure it doesn't rust?

Unless your irresponsible to your pistols, rust won't be an issue. But bluing SIG does and the nitromethane are not even close to tennifer.
