    Sid P226R barrel finish

This question may be a little silly, but it's out of curiosity that I'm asking. I've owned a few Sigs in the past and regretably sold them to fun other things. Well the bug bit me again so I bought a Sig P226R Navy and love it. I've put about 200 flawless rounds through it and am very happy with my purchase.

One thing I have noticed however is that the barrel has a matte, almost abrasive texture to it while all of my other Sigs have had very smooth, blues style barrels. Is Sig using this more abrasive finish on their barrels now or is it kind of luck o the draw? I have to say that aesthetically wise I prefer the smoother blued barrel my other Sigs had.

The barrel is not phosphate coated.

I didn't notice the difference in my MK25 to other 226 barrel coatings, when I get a chance I'll compare mine and report back.

wow the other's post above mine dissapeared suggesting the texture was due to phosphate coating which it is not.

But yes mine has that 'textured' coating as well while my other 226 does not. Don't know the reason for it.

I have noticed though that the coating seems to wear easier than my other blued barrels in general. There is more wear on the top of the barrel towards the front (those 'wear rings' on top of the barrel) compared to my other pistols with blued barrels.
