    Travel to California question..

Is the reatail locked case that a gun came in suitable for travel to the airlines and TSA?

Heading to Cali in 2 weeks..want to bring my gun(not conceal..just in my residence while I am there and want no problems in the airport)

    Thanks!

Probably not. Best to contact the Airline (or the website of the Airline and TSA). You will need a proper locked case. Only you can have the key. (no TSA locks).

Also, no magazines over 10 rounds. No assault pistols.

Fewer people are killed with all rifles each year (323 in 2011) than with shotguns (356), hammers and clubs (496), and hands and feet (728).

I've traveled by air a number of time and have used the factory case from SIG, S&W, Springfield and Glock without issues. Just throw a lock on it and throw it in my checked in luggage.

Be sure to allow extra time at check-in as you'll have to go to the ticket counter (no curbside check-in), declare the gun, fill out the card and wait while it goes through TSA check

I've never traveled with a firearm, so please forgive the ignorance. Once checked and approved, and you arrive at your destination, do they just put your pistol on the conveyor belt for pick-up with the rest of your luggage, or do you actually get to put the case in a suitcase?

I put the card in the case, lock the case and put it into the suitcase.

At my destination, my suitcase comes out on the carrousel with the other luggage

this is more that likely your best bet, just call them.
another option that you may want to look at, is possibly just shipping it to yourself.

I travel VERY frequently with handguns. Any case works as long as it locks. Declare it at check in and you will fill out a card and place it inside the case, lock it, and stick it in a suitcase. TSA may check it and they may not. Either way it gets scanned. You'll be fine.... it's a very simple process.

^^^ Good point...Do Not Import "Hi Cap" Mags!!! Break down all magazines over 10 rounds (and don't reassemble them while in CA). I never really thought about that since I normally fly out of California. Now that I moved out of state, I'm going to have to remember this myself!

Wish we could see some signs like this in the USA. This was from my trip to Thailand a couple of weeks ago. Flew AIR ASIA in Country from Bangkok to Phuket. Apparently, traveling with a handgun in Thailand is not a big deal..

(some free GLOCK advertising as well....hehehe)
