I am stariting to think Les Baer....

    I was told that a 1911 9mm CAN'T be as accurate as a 45.

    Any truth to that?

Not true, both calibers are accurate as I have 1911's in both the .45 and 9mm and it shoots as accurate as the gun can be.

No truth to that & that is from Facts. As long as both are built right w/ quality match parts, shooting match/quality ammo, . . . . its The Indian Not the Arrow.

Reason PPC world wide is shot Semi with 9mm.

          Just saying: AA-Atlantia Arms PPC 9mm 115grn load is made to hold 1.25" @ 50 yards .

From Atlanta Arms Site re: 9mm:
          9MM 115GR XTP Match PPC

This ammo is the PPC match ammo used by all of Homeland Security pistol teams including all of the Border Patrol Teams, as well as some of the best police teams. This is also a great Bianchi Cup and Steel Challenge round averaging 1100 FPS. Our accuracy test requirement is 5 ten-shot groups at 50 yards, with an average group size not to exceed 1.25 inches.
          9MM 115GR FMJ Match AMU

This is the ammo used by the Army Marksmanship Unit and the Marine team for service pistol matches. Our accuracy test requirement is 5 ten-shot groups at 50 yards with an average group size not to exceed 1.5 inches, when shot from a test fixture.
From AA-Atlanta Arms Site re: .45ACP:
          45 ACP JHP Match AMU

This ammo is currently used by the Army Marksmanship and Marine service Pistol Teams. It is also used by some of the top PPC shooters in the world. The accuracy requirement for this ammo is 5 ten-shot groups at 50 yards, with an average group size not to exceed 2.25 inches when shot from a test fixture.
          - Doesnt mean a .45ACP wont shoot tighter, just what was specified for this load. Short Course was Probably more at play with this load development than PPC's 50 yard X Ring.

          * Handguns Built/Sprung/Setup for Competition, 1911(s) especially, were not meant to shot High Pressure Loads, so please use Match Ammo intended for your platform or Load you own.
Match your Spring Rate to your Load Rating.
          * fwiw: No +P, or off the shelf HD round. Those rounds do have a purpose, just not for shooting out the X Ring at distance.

^ If you have a Precision/Match Built handgun with Quality Match Ammo = Always the Shooter.

If it was me and money wasn't an issue I would get a Luke Volkmann but the wait is about 8-9 months to have him build you one to your exact specs. Amazing work of art in his pistols. Since you are in the Bay area I have a Nighthawk Talon in 9mm that I would be more than happy to have you shoot if you where looking at Nighthawk as an option their wait is about the same though.

                  I got a Les Baer custom 1911 Monolith in 9mm with a 1.5" guarantee.

I LOVE THIS PISTOL, but I also love my M&Ps, CZs, and Glocks...so that doesn't say much.

with the full dust cover and weight on the front... I SWEAR it shoots like a .22

                      Yep, sure does look nice.

Recoil on a 6 inch 9mm would be nearly nonexistent.

What's the idea behind the Monolith pistols?

Money is not an object?! Then...

Build it! You won't be disappointed.

Infinity Firearms, SVI Guns is a top of the line custom pistol manufacturer. If you want the best money can buy, shop here.

If it was up to me I'd get a 5" Sight Tracker with standard 9mm match chamber. Then when you want to have a bit more oomph, you can order another top end for 40S&W. Heck, just get two uppers for it, come to think of it you can order it with extra fitted barrels for 10mm. If you want it super smooth get the Accurail option.

Just to give you an idea.
