    Magazines for the 1911 - 9mm

Two questions about these. I have a Kimber 9mm 1911 will the Springfield magazines for the 1911 9mm work fine? Any one ever try?

Also is there any known low end magazines for these in terms of price? I have always managed to get "cheap" magazines to work for my RIA 45 in the past so I figured it'd be nice to try with the 9mm, but the lowest price on any I can find is around $25 each?

    Yes, the magazines are interchangeable.

As for your second question, Mecgar magazines are relatively inexpensive, but more importantly, they're reliable, and can generally be had for under $20.

If you insist on going with cheaper magazines, you may want to consider giving these a try...At 19.99 a piece, they are relatively inexpensive.

Guess I was lucky in that the $8 45 magazines just worked great for me. At 19.99 these look like a good option. I do wish they were 10 round, but ok.

I 2nd that on the Mecgar. They are very reliable and available on Midway.

I have read somewhere that the metalform 9mm mags (Springfield OEM) chew up the ramp on the Kimber 9mm barrel. Do some googling on that first. The Springfield factory mags (metalform) are designed differently than other 9mm 1911 mags.

I hear Tripp research makes good 9mm 1911 mags.

Ouch Trip Research are $35; I feel like I can tweak low end (cost) one's and get them to work if they don't just work great to begin with. I only ask about the Springfield because they come up used in the market place once in a while, but it looks like these MecGar are a good deal - as low as $18 delivered if I order 4 it looks like.

Yes Tripp Cobras are what I use and recommend. Definitely among the top echelon of mags out there, but cheap they are not...

I use Tripp Research magazines exclusively. They're flawless.

Good mags are a cheap price for reliability. Especially if it's for home defense. Im a cheap bastard but I never skimp on mags.

I'll try the low end and see how they work out; if they bust or aren't suitable to the Kimber (or future RIA) then I'll go the expensive route.

Metalform makes the mags for Colt and my Colt 9mm mags are very good. I do run Wilsons and Tripps for USPSA matches though (due to the 10rd capacity). Very reliable in my Springfield 9mm.

I just got my prototype base pad for my Metalform 9mm mags with removable base plate done and working. An added bonus is making them accept 10 rounds.
