I asked Reeds if I could bring my 9 year old daughter and they said yes. I think the rifle ranges allow young minors to. The Los Altos gun club allows kids but they must be by your side at all times.

I know up there is different than down here - but locally the indoor ranges mostly specify they are tall enough to shoot over the bench and not under it. At the outdoor range - at least Angeles - my 5 yo daughter at the time was allowed to shoot my leveraction with no problems or questions asked.

Just call and ask where you want to go. Easy enough.

I took my little brother shooting to Castro Valley Gun Club and was no issue also took him to the gun range off Davis in San leandro area. He was around 12 the first time I took him.

Haven't had any issues at any of the following:
              1. Castro valley (pistol/rifle) outdoors
              2. San Leandro (pistol/rifle) indoors or outdoors
              3. Target Masters (pistol/rifle) - wouldn't recommend this for a group as the indoor lanes are tight
              4. Livermore (pistol/rifle) outdoors

All Bay Area ranges have this rule, or just some?

bring them to los altos range. they will like shooting bottles filled with water at 40 yards. I always see boy scouts there on saturdays having a "blast"

Actually I may be wrong but there's still some limitation based on age for Target Masters (as shown on their website):
16- to 18-year-olds Must have a Minors Permission Slip completed by their legal guardian(s)
Under 16 Must be with Parent(s) or Legal guardian(s).

Take them to the USI range in Concord.
There's kids there often, and I've never heard them interrogate anyone over whether or not they are the kid's parents.
I use to be an anarchist but I quit that; there's too many rules.

I used to take my son and his friends shooting handguns when they were much younger at USI. Never a problem.
