    Ordering parts online...

How does one go about ordering parts these days? I need a mag release handle, but it needs to be shipped to an FFL location apparently. What's the current practice here?

    Thanks.

I thought : Parts (w/o serial number) do not need FFL. Parts with serial number and ammo need FFL. Or I am wrong, educate me.

Edit: After read couple posts, I am confused. Last year I order this online, they sent to my door, no FFL.

I just check back with them again, the web site said they do not ship the same item to California. May be the new law in 2026 ?????

It's a big mess right now just go to your local gun shop and buy one from them. I just tried to buy some mini 14 mags online and they wouldn't ship directly to me. I ended up buying a few from my local ffl dealer

I ordered the right side for an ambi safety and had to go through an FFL. Luckily they didn't charge me for using it so I bought some ammo that I didn't really need from them.

I will call up some places and see if they can get it for me. I guess buying local is better in general. I keep buying online for convenience, but then complain that there are no local businesses 🤦‍♂️
          Thanks!

I hear ac3. When ordering online was starting up, I told my sons and others to go local first (unless the deal was smoking hot). Helps keep the shops open.

Ordered ambidextrous mag release. Had to send copy of drivers license showing over 21 and address to receive. Then sign and intial form with checkboxes stating I wouldn't assemble machine gun! Then part had to be sent with adult signature required!

I ordered a red dot sight right after new year from Amazon. I didn’t see anything during the check out process. The delivery driver rang the door bell and asked to see ID before handing me the sight.

So was this all caused by storefront stores refusing to lose business to online retailers? I quit shopping most local stores because of lack of inventory, long wait times just to receive crappy service, and still told they can't (won't put effort) into placing an order...

What about used old parts? FFLs dont carry old used parts for C&R guns and the online retailers wont ship into the state. This whole thing is a mess. Im not building a ghost gun, im trying to restore and old cold war relic.

If none of the above replies do not work for you,the best that can be done for now is to ask your FFL if they will receive an order from out of state for parts. Mine will for $10. Then ask the out of state retailer if they will ship it to your FFL.

They arent shipping at all and now on eBay, sellers wont ship to an address different than whats on the buyers account. None of my local FFLs have an eBay account.

Some parts suppliers will accept a photo copy of your Driver’s license, or Photo ID. However, I recently tried to order a rifle barrel, and the Company wanted to ship it to my FFL dealer, who wants an extra $20 for this. I just had another supplier just cancel an order for a AR gas block, because they are not sure what is going on.
So, I agree with other posters here that it’s a mess right now. Nobody knows for sure what is going on.

And thats just how they want it. The state can't ban the 2A outright so they're getting the private sector to do it through fear and confusion over the law.

Good question and good luck trying to find someone that wants to navigate California's complex and bazaar laws
