Red Dot Reflex Sight for Sig Sauer P226

Hi,

I'm trying to decide which red dot reflex sight to put on my P226' and have narrowed down to the following selections:

1. Burris FastFire III with 4 MOA dot ($260 with mount for the Sig)
2. Leupold DeltaPoint with 3.5 MOA dot ($450 online)

It appears the Leupold's reflector is approx 5~6 mm wider than the Burris, other than that, the .5 MOA difference is not that big of a deal for me.

Any suggestions or inputs are much appreciated!

How will you attach it?

Are you going to get it milled into the slide, of just replace the rear sight, or use a bridge mount?

If you replace the rear sight then you want the lightest weight (smallest) one as the rear sight dovetail was not designed for weight...

You could also do a bridge mount then it wont matter as much how much it weighs but then it sits really high.

On a 226, you really dont need a red dot. it aims itself once you get used to it.

Check out the sig x five forum to see how the competition shooters have their set up. Usually through a bridge mount.

@unusedusername, thanks for the link. I don't think i'm mentally ready to mill a big opening on my Sig yet. I'm trying to keep it as original as possible, so I'll just remove the rear sight and slide in a Burris mount(they made one for P226 ).

@solidux, thanks for the bridge mount tips, since i wear glasses and i don't have the best eyes around, so I guess I need a red dot, LOL.

My Deltapoint came with a ton of mounts:



I tossed it on a G34. Works fine. Somewhere between 500-1000 rounds with no issues.



The big benefit is clearly having the triangle-of-doom and the target both in focus at distance...

Have you considered a laser? That way you don't have this block to catch things on the top of your pistol and you can still use unmodified holsters.

There are a lot of holsters that you do not have to modify to accommodate a RDS.


DocGKR has some good posts floating around on various forums about putting RDS on handguns. IIRC his top picks are either the Trijicon 8 MOA LED RMR or the Leupold Deltapoint 7.5 MOA combined with suppressor height irons.

I've been very interested in doing this to my P226, but I think I would prefer to use a G19 or M&P9 for the host.

Thanks for taking your time to post the pics, it seems the Leupold mount has a seamless intergartion with your GLOCK's slide.

Just curious, do you put the mount on your other pistols and share the sight?

Thanks for the heads up. I have not personally used a 7.5/8 MOA sight, I'm assuming it's twice bigger than the 3.5/4 MOA sight. Would that be too big for target shooting?

Nope. So far it's stayed on the 34.

Depends on the target shooting, I'd guess.

8 MOA is basically 8 inches at 100 yards, or 2 inches at 25 yards. I shoot the G34 at 7, 15 and 25 yards and the 'large' dot is perfectly usable. The 'dot' on this Deltapoint is actually a triangle - flat down, point up - so in theory you could use the top tip if you need a more precise aiming point.



I find that the red dot makes my wobble zone very apparent...not necessarily a good thing.
