Question about a older beretta 84

Went window shopping at a gun store after work today. They had a beautiful surplus beretta 84b. No magazine disconnect like the more common BB's, finish in decent shape for a euro police surplus and the asking price was impossible to walk away from. Gave it a light oiling and it ran great, they really don't make them like they used to.

I want to swap the grip panels for something with a bit more grip and beretta medallions. The screws heads don't look like normal flat heads, the slot is thinner than anything in have. What size screw driver do i need?

Nice pickup.
Wow those are very thin slots.
I have the Harbor Freight set since it came with so many tips.
On the thinner standard tips I noticed it start to twist.
Has not broken yet.

The actual size you have.......I have no idea.

Will be more expensive x2 but if you want G-10 LOK grips will inlay medallions if you send them in.
I liked the trident over the PB.
The price for medallion from Beretta has gone from $2 each to $9 each

Used Dark Red/Black for a wood look.

you'll have to measure as best you can unless you want to buy a whole set of screwdriver bits to ensure you get one of proper width.

Or you can hollow grind and heat treat your own bit.

The bits in these sets are designed to break before damaging the fastener itself. Breakage of a bit should not be considered a defect, rather it means that the fastener will require some other means of removal or an application of a suitable compound that will penetrate threads, such as Kano Kroil.

I had asked if they are going to cut Beretta RDO slots into standard slides and they did reply back.
Took a few weeks to get back to me, "not currently offering that service"
Maybe send them the picture and ask.
They must know what size it is.

I can't help you with the flat head bit size.
But I will second that emotion about Lok grips. Lok grips are the way to go. Worth every penny.

Got it done. Beretta grips bought off Amazon. Pretty sure they are legit Beretta manufactured. Got the biggest set of screwdrivers harbor freight had, found a few that did the job. Lok grips looked nice, but I wanted to keep the classic look of this gun intact.

Do they have enough grip with cross hatch pattern?
So for others....what size screwdriver worked for super thin slots?

Went window shopping at bass pro and handled the 80x. Trigger is really nice, but something about the way it looks just doesn't do it for me. The slide is a bit fatter and that railed frame ruins the "beretta look". Safty/decocker also sucks, maybe it breaks in over time, but the sales sample was ridiculously stiff. They did have a used 84fs though that was mighty tempting.

Its enough, and way better than the smooth stocks that came on this gun. The 1/8 flathead fit the screws.

I agree. I prefer the old 84BB look, with the rounded trigger guard, giving it a very elegant and smooth look. The "tacticool" look with all the crap sticking out everywhere is just wrong. I don't even like the 84FS's hooked trigger guard. I would have bought a few surplus 84BBs if I were not in this ****hole of a state.

I have a surplus 85BB I bought years ago, condition rated very good, but IMO it's far better than that. Still has the original plastic grips, and still looks great, a very classy pistol. Never held the 84, but the single stack grip of the 85 feels great.
