FNP9 or M&P 9

Quick question, which one would you go with? and why?

M&P 9mm because I have one and I really like it. I use it as my Steel Challenge gun and it makes me look good.

The M&P is one amazing pistol. It's definitely a platform that's gonna be hard to beat. Almost everything about the pistol is great, except one drawback. One gritty as hell, stiff trigger. But, nothin' Dan Burwell can't fix. There's even a write-up of how to do a trigger job by him if you choose to clean it up. A lightweight plastic gun that recoils like an all steel X5. So soft shooting.

Thanks a lot. Looks like i'll go with M&P 9mm without internal lock , with nightsight option. Looks like $50 rebate + 2mag deal is still valid. I may jump on it any time.,

I have an FNP-9 and it is awesome.

Another endorsement for the M&P. We have one in 40 and I like the ergonomics as well as the way it handles.

I have an FNP-9 and its great. Never jams and easy to take apart for cleaning.

I agree, only the slide, barrel, and guide rod assembly to clean, no worrying about the spring jumping out and dissapearing.

Handguns are very personalize tool so each is different for each person. I compared both and ended up with FNP-9, but you might end up with something different.

FNP-9 is a compact sized gun. M&P is full size(and they have compact version too)

FNP-9 feels more like a pistol that was produced not for high taste, but rather for everyday use. It goes bang and it works and that's it. M&P is of similar concept, but it seems to be slightly done better. When I held both in my hands, FNP-9 felt a bit 'cheap' compared to M&P. The decocker and slide lock of FNP is a good example of this. They are made for mass production and functionality and that's it.

Grips for M&P did not work very well for my hands but FNP did. On the other hand, magazine release on M&P worked better for me. Both have interchangable backstraps, but FNP felt better in my hands than M&P. Your milage may vary.

Trigger pull is something both pistols need some work on, and DA pull of FNP is estimated to be 12-14lbs and is long. SA is better, but it feels like a sponge. I could live with that and M&P's trigger is gritty and a bit heavy, but it is a decent trigger pull.

There are very limited selection for FNP in terms of holster and other accesorries. M&P is still new in market and has similar problems, but looking at the rate it will have more accessorries.

One thing that you may want to be careful is recent increase in FNP's trigger group crack. http://www.fnforum.net has some reports about the issue, and it seems to require the pistol to be sent to FN.

FNP-9 comes with 3 mags, and if you want, you can get SAO version instead of DA/SA. You'd need to send the gun back but conversion is something doable.

I would hold both and see which one points/feels better in your hand.
I think the FN is a better looking pistol. I will eventually purchase an FNP45 It's on my to buy list(It's a long list)

A fan of the 9mm M&P

I've got the 9mm M&P compact and, with about 500 rounds through it, can't find a single thing to complain about. It's a great gun for the money!
