    Sig Keyhole?

So I finally got to take my new Sig 2022 9mm to the range today. I had a hard time finding my grip with it, but still shot decent groups. While inspecting though it seems like the bullet is not punching the paper straight. Also leaving odd marks in the spent casing powder burn. All shots were factory Winchester white box 115gr

I did a basic field strip cleaning and oiling before it went out (seemed dirty for a new gun imo)The first 100 rounds had no failures so it seems to be running right. Is this something I should be concerned with?

    Thanks for any input guys!

Thems just round nose holes, try some HP they punch alittle cleaner holes. If you want really clean holes get a revolver and shoot wadcutters.
If you want change you have to put in your 2 cents, you can't just sit on the sidelines and whine.

The holes look like you didn't have your target mounted to a solid backing. The paper moves as the bullet tears through the limp paper.

Your cases look pretty normal...it's been a while since I've shot WWB (too dirty)...what do they look like coming out of your other 9mms?

looks like the slugs might be tumbling a bit. Shoot longer distance, see if it gets worse.

I only see several ragged holes.

                Tumbling???

Looks like a normal target shot with FMJ.

Looks like the same as holes from my Sigs.

Hotter 9mm loads (self defense ammo $$$) or flatter bullets make for cleaner holes. Wadcutters won't feed nicely in a stock Sig so avoid those.

WWB is a really wimpy powder load compared to others. Try Fiocchi target loads they are closer to spec.

There was no solid backing, just hanging from clips at an indoor range. This is the only gun I see it from. As this is the only 9mm i own I have nothing to compare to this is why i was curious.

This particular gun is my first venture outside of the Glock or rimfire world so its new territory to me. Thanks for the responses Calguns!

I thought that keyholeing won't really show up for like the first 100 yards or so, unless the bullet is just rattling down the barrel bouncing off the lands. A 115 gr 9mm load would be hard to identify keyholeing in anyways due to the bullet being almost the same length as width?

Staple it onto a piece of cardboard next range trip and mount the cardboard to the clips.

You'll have nice, pretty holes then.

If your target was squared up and the crown of the barrel isn't off center... Are those reloaded ammo you're using? Maybe it's the quality of the pics but they look like some kind of plated bullets and one has more crimp than the other. Just wondering since I can see the seating stem mark around the ogive.

I used to load Rainier plated bullets and seen some keyholes. I found out it's due to the uneven crimp from the mixed headstamp I loaded them with. The crimp on longer brass cuts into the thin plated jacket causing deformation. Those rounds would mostly likely cause keyholes.
