Thinking of a Taurus model 65

While looking at revolvers online I was interested in the Taurus model 65. It's not really pricey, a good one to relinquish when using for HD because it will be to LE as evidence and if one uses a Glock, one may not get it back. What do the fellow CGers say?

Would hunt around for an older Ruger they are found at good prices and a much better gun. Also the chances of anyone getting in a shooting are pretty low but that being said I would use the gun I am the most comfortable with and most reliable with us. As if you have to use your gun you want to win the battle; than worry about other things later. I would have no issues losing a gun to evidence if it meant I won the incident

All true Benjamin. Thanks for the input. I was looking for experiences by others with the weapon (range time hassles or real bad guy stuff).

I’m curious, is your statement based on having owned a Taurus 65? I have multiple Rugers, and multiple Tauruses. I’ve owned and shot Tauruses for over 35 years and have never had an issue.

I have an older (90s era) 65 and it’s great. They may not be my goto guns but I would have no problem relying on them in a situation. I also wouldn’t hesitate to use a Ruger. In fact my edc is a Ruger.

Relinquish to LE after a shooting lol. That’s what my Glock is for…

I would agree Ora, but with the threat of Glocks being unobtainable and the price of used Glocks going up (I've a G22 and a G30s) I'm thinking of the Taurus as a Bic lighter.

            I had a Taurus 85 c h in 38spl.
After around 1,000 rounds of non +p ( that steel j frame was not +p rated ) went out of time.

Aside from that ( happened many years ago ) are you really comfortable with a 5 capacity revolver..

I understand in part what you mean, but ca is already restricting us with 10 rounds - 5 is just about minimum load out, not saying your pick is wrong ( you know you ) , but I would at least look for a used Ruger / smith 6 shot with at least a 4 “ barrel in 357 magnum ( you can also use 38’s.

Use the best you can afford- one day you may need it in a life or death situation.

As to the guns expensive or budget ~ that’s going to be the least of your issues . Jail and a good sd lawyer is minimum $50,000 to over $100,000 and even if everything is gtg may change your life one way or another. Don’t worry about the firearm ~ if it saves you or a loved family member it’s done its job.

            Good luck 👍

Thank you acali, I was thinking of the .357 4" model, six round capacity. The timing issue may be shared with that one as well using full power .357 loads. I don't anticipate shooting a lot of rounds through it, but there is that concern. Also, as I have posted in another thread, I believe Taurus is under the umbrella that has Rossi and others. That in itself is not too important but I dealt with customer service on another matter and I didn't want to deal with them anymore. Maybe with luck I won't have to.

The Taurus revolvers are decent 'tools'. They function satisfactorily and will do the job.
                My opinion and two cents:
                I would rather have a S&W M19 or M66, or a Ruger GP100.
They do cost a bit more, but if you intend for HD, I would want to ensure the revolver is 100% reliable (and perhaps a bit more 'refined' than a Taurus).

IMHO for what you're asking, it's probably great. I have first hand experience with the service department of sevel mfgs, and let's just say that Taurus customer service for me was far and away superior to the customer service of Dan Wesson/CZ umbrella. So just saying, if you do have a problem that at least Taurus backs it up with their lifetime service policy and you likely won't need anyways.
You can always upgrade later if you really end up liking the revolver concept right?

Based on several Ive seen over the years, I would not own one. I’m saying “DO NOT BUY”. Go find a decent Ruger or Smith, those are the weapons for the masses. The Taurus are IMO the guns of the Walmart foreign-born crowd. Yes, I’ve seen dog crap sent out by Ruger and Smith, but it happens much less frequently.

I have a couple Taurus revolvers and they've been 100% reliable since they were new. The fit and finish is excellent. It's anecdotal, but I notice any problems people have seem to be with older Brazil made guns. The US made guns seem better. Unfortunately, I think all the revolvers are made in Brazil. In recent years, it seems even the Brazil guns are getting better.

My experience with Taurus wheel guns is 50-50, quality control can be an issue. Might genta good gun, might not but it’s admittedly been awhile since I bought one. Maybe QC has improved and it’s better now.

I was going with the experience of my brother. He bought knock off of the Baretta 9mm. He didn't do mag dumps and it function flawlessly. I realize they are two different firearms made at different times. I'm going to have to revisit this thought.
