Gen 3 to be banned, unless redesigned which is a catch 22.

The sale of new Gen 3 Glocks to civilians in California will be banned starting January 1, 2026, if Governor Gavin Newsom signs the recently passed bill, AB 1127. The bill targets all Glock models and their clones that can be illegally modified into fully automatic weapons with a "Glock switch".
Why Gen 3 Glocks are affected

Targeting of trigger bar: The bill's language specifically prohibits the sale of any semi-automatic pistol with a cruciform trigger bar, a component common to all generations of Glock pistols.

Workaround for Glock: AB 1127 allows for Glock to redesign their Gen 3 models to prevent illegal modification with conversion devices within six months after the bill becomes effective. If redesigned, the models could be re-grandfathered onto the handgun roster for sale.

Microstamping requirement: All Glocks, including Gen 3 models, were previously declared "unsafe" by the state because they do not have microstamping technology, along with loaded chamber indicators or magazine disconnects. Only older Gen 3 models were available for purchase because they were grandfathered onto the state's handgun roster.

What the ban means for California gun owners

Impact on sales: After January 1, 2026, licensed firearms dealers in California will be prohibited from selling, transferring, or delivering any new Gen 3 Glock pistols to civilians, unless they are redesigned by Glock.

Legal ownership unchanged: The bill is not a confiscation law, so current owners of Gen 3 Glocks will not be required to surrender their firearms. Private party transfers of currently owned Gen 3 Glocks will also remain exempt from the new restrictions.
Law enforcement exemption: The sales ban would not apply to law enforcement officers or military personnel.

Expected legal challenge: A legal challenge to AB 1127 is expected. It is possible that enforcement could be delayed depending on the outcome of court proceedings.

That is not entirely accurate. Full ban on sales does not kick in until July 1 2026. Anything in dealer stock on or before January 1 can still be transferred until July 1.

Also, unless the language has been changed in the proposed bill, all clones like Shadow Systems, Derya DY9, etc. anything Glock clone with the cruciform trigger bar will also be banned. And we will obviously never get the Ruger RXM unless Ruger heavily modifies it.
This is the tyrants playbook to backdoor ban all semi-auto firearms in the state using the same idiotic punishment logic they are using here.

I find it interesting how gunners in ca have to wait YEARS for any restore rights to once again get knocked off our 2nd amendment rights, but only ( within a years time ) to outlaw a ( Glock ) pistol..

That’s some bs right there !!

              New to California are we?

Gen 1 and 2 were only ever on the roster as a matter of Glock generosity. Who really transfers Gen1/2 via an FFL ownership anyway? Aren't they all PPT? As for Gen 4 and 5, they never were ever on the roster. I suppose the red letters are to let everyone know, hey, we are not letting Glocks on the roster. Right? Do they do that for every other gun manufacture? They never were ever rostered.

As everyone is pointing out, it's looking like Gen3's are now on the hit list, and as time passes, Glock has less and less motivation to maintain Gen3's for the sake of CA BS. I suppose Glock has it within their means to make a roster compliant Glock, and I imagine liberals would sh@t a brick if that would happen. The question remains.............. does Glock care? S&W and SIG and Springfield (even KIMBER) are making headway in the CA market at Glock's expense.

Does Glock care? I don't think they do. The fundamental change to their underlying design would have to basically scrap the entire foundation of how they designed pistols. To make that change for an obsolete generation in a hostile market that doesn't allow new generations anyway seems counter productive.

The whole 6 months is kind of BS too. Glock would have had to started designing a way to comply before the law even got on the books. Liberals are so transparent.

Did Newtie sign the bill or is it sitting on his desk? l haven't heard that he's signed it, although I expect that he will.

Then why have a date included - where it specifically had yesterday's (Thursday's) date now added?

The date updates , whatever day you look at it it shows that days date. Like right now, go to the roster site select manufacture Glock, it says Sep. 21, 2025.

Re: AB 1127, the Glock machine gun ban.

Haven’t had time to chew on this but, the bill got a major amendment just prior to being approved by the legislature.

It appears that the amendment gives Glock (or manufacturers of crucifix firing system pistols) until Jan 1, 2027, to redesign older generation models to prevent illegal modification with machinegun conversion devices.

If this is done, the older modified gens (read: Gen 3) would be grandfathered onto the roster without the need for the “Safe Handgun” attributes (CLI, mag disconnect, etc). The sales lock-out on current models will remain at Jan 1, 2026.

Newer generation 4 and 5 Glocks, which are far more common in other states, appear to still be excluded from the roster.

Here’s the final amended version showing the changes in blue.

ETA: The “firearm accessory” language is concerning as well as the concept of “reasonable controls”. The first is far too broad and the second is far too ambiguous.

But this looks like a deal to allow Newsom to ban machine guns while showing his support of the 2A and firearms industry efforts to provide common sense solutions (I hated writing that).
