    Getting into M&P M2.0...

I'm buying my first new handgun in years and I always thought the m&ps shot really nice, the recoil is handled well. Hit me that these models are one of the only ones sold new and compliant because I saw one in person and loved it except for the massive loaded chamber indicator. This question has probably been asked before. but what are my options? It looks like other than getting the slide replaced or getting a non-2.0 m&p, that's pretty much it (other than out of state shenanigans)

There are a few options for a loaded chamber indicator (LCI) delete. From what I've seen, they're pretty much the same design across the board so one of the differences I found is in the material (and cost).

Lurch manufacturing, for example, has a polymer LCI delete. Apex tactical offers their "No profile Loaded Chamber Indicator" and "Low profile Loaded Chamber Indicator" as a machined steel part.

Also, if you happen to have a 3D printer you could make one. There are a few sites that have the files.

Do you plan to mount an optic? If so, swapping the slides is likely your best course.

If you were to get the slide milled, the LCI is removed so that is worth thinking about.

^^^^ THIS. This is the bigger problem in my mind. The LCI is ugly AF but mostly inconsequential to the performance of the gun. The bigger issue for me would be the inability to mount an optic. It's a shame S&W didn't add an optic ready gun to the list. They would sell a ton of those.

Now with that said, it is very nice IMO to have a regular slide and and optic ready slide so you can trade them back and forth depending on whether you want to train irons or optic. Having two slides is awesome. YMMV.

Smith & Wesson sells slides on their website and you can also check eBay.
