That's because the recoil impulse of .40 is much shorter than that of .45 resulting in more felt recoil for .40. To really compare polymer and steel, you need to compare the same caliber side by side.

I guess I was comparing tyson vs. newton law. if you are a reloader you know what I'm talking about.

I've only shot a 10mm once before (a Glock 29) and I have a sneaking suspicion that the ammo I used was watered down a bit, but the recoil felt exactly the same as the recoil from my Glock 27 in .40.

You might be surprised. I shoot some pretty nasty hand loaded 10mm out of my Glock 29SF (only upgrade is a 21lb Wolff steel guiderod and spring set), and it feels like shooting a hot 45 out of a full size pistol. At least to me.

While a lot of people belitle and mock the tupperware like flexibility of the Glock frame, and other polymer guns are purpose built to be much more rigid, I'm pretty sure that the flexibility is the reason why Glocks are so pleasant to launch 10mm from, and why they survive a steady diet of hot ammo and abuse as well as they do.

Congrats! The 10mm is a very accurate round. Both my Kimber and 610 are lasers.

I just used my Kimber for a match last weekend and the 1,200 fps loads only slowed me down by about a second to a second and a half of my regular times.



My fave load is 13 grains of AA#9 pushing a 200 grain lead slug.

Starline direct from their website is your best option for brass ($.14/case). If you find a source of once fired 10mm brass, keep it a secret.

I also got a KKM 10-40 conversion barrel and shoot 40S&W brass with both 10mm loads and 40S&W loads. If you go this way, load the 10mm loads using heavier bullets (I like 180gr for this) and load to 10mm OAL (1.250-1.260") lengths, hence the heavier bullets. Blue Dot, Longshot and AA#9 are my favorite 10mm powders.

This just in, there is a guy over on the GT forums in the Gun related clubs section, in the 10mm reloading section that has 600 cases of once fired 10mm brass for sale. This is also a good place to learn all about 10mm reloading.

Loved longshot for my 40 reloads, and my plan it's to keep using it for the 10. I never thought of loading 40s to 10mm levels, I'll keep it in mind when I get a conversion barrel.

The caveat to this is if your conversion barrel will chamber the longer OAL. My KKM did right from the git-go. Meathead9 had to have KKM (or maybe it was Lonewolf, can't remember) throat his barrel to accept longer OAL's.

Underwood ammo has the most powerful 10mm right now and its not too expensive.

It is pretty smoky though and it seems the OAL was a little long I had a couple FTFs.
