Unless they got a new government or law enforcement contract I don't see Glock making any changes or "innovation". They are the poster child for if it ain't broke don't fix it. The only time we get something new from Glock is when some law enforcement agency pays for it. The only reason we have gen 5 is a DHS contract and The 19X was a failed army contract.

Yeah I guess it’s past time to thin the heard if your Glock and time wise I’ve been expecting the 6th Gen to drop soon.

Ive been wanting a G47 for awhile, been waiting for an OD version to drop. But because it hasn’t, I’m now waiting to see what the Gen 6 is. If I’m not thrilled I’ll get a Gen 5 47.

Doesn't matter, Glocks will soon be banned in Commifornia thanks to Gav Boy who will be signing AB1127 into law very soon.

"It is currently CA legal to modify a double-action revolver into a single-action revolver and modify a single-action revolver into a double-action revolver.

CA DOJ BOF stance on modifying handguns only applies to dimensionally compliant bolt-action single-shot pistols and dimensionally compliant break-open single-shot pistols.
^It does not apply to revolvers, manually operated repeating pistols, and semi-auto pistols." ~~ Quiet

If a Gen 6 Glock isn't modular then they are going to get left behind. You can have a nearly 30 year old Glock design or the latest from SW, SIG, Springfield and even RUGER.

I am curious what the market depth of a very large military or LEO contract is relative to ALL OF CALIFORNIA.

Why bother paying a premium for a Gen5 against new SIG's, Springers, and the like.

Glock has crossed a generational crossroads. The founder is dead, the heirs probably are not "into" the business and want to enjoy their wealth. Don't expect anything from Glock other than to hold position and maintain wealth for the sake of personal consumption for the owners.

Then it sounds like Glock is in a good position to be bought out by another firearms company (Ruger, CZ, perhaps?) to turn out modern pistols.

Glock is gonna be bought out, yeah right. Glock will be surpassed by Sig etc etc, now that is funny. Glock is and will continue to be numero uno, rather Gen 6 is modular or not. There is nothing in the handgun world more overrated than modular pistols. I own two and none are as good as a Glock 17 Gen 5-4 or even 3. When the 6 comes out whatever it may be it will be the industry standard for service type handguns, just as Glock always has been.

If Glock was for sale, every major firearms company would be lining up to buy. Profitable, great brand, great product. All reasons why the heirs wouldn't sell the company.

Some people have this impression that Glock is exiting California. They are not. There is a reason why Glock is discontinuing most Gen3 models, but keeping the most popular ones. Gen3 17, 19, 26 make up the majority of sales in California. I see a company curating their lineup to improve profitability. Keep the top sellers, discontinue low volume models. Glock can get by with these three models in CA alone due to reputation and value proposition. The greatest threat to Glock right now is AB1127. If that fails, I can't see Glock exiting the largest market in the U.S. California is a cash cow for handguns. As long as you have models on the roster and a reputation like Glock's, you will sell a lot of handguns. It's the real reason behind AB1127...it's not about public safety, it's about executing a culture war against Glock, who happens to be one of the top sellers of handguns in CA.

Maybe they do launch a Glock 6 that qualifies for the roster. But even if they do, and it's not modular, they will still sell a ton of them because CA is still a limited market with very few options even with an expanded roster.

Yes, it's a family business. When old man died, family members are going after their piece. They could also sell out to private equity via leverage for $$$, and cash out far more richer.

But all Glocks (generations 0 - 5) are broke in one very important factor which will block them from winning any future government contracts: they require a trigger pull to disassemble. There's no way any new solicitations / RFPs are going to allow that for future military procurements. Local law enforcement agencies in the US may have more flexibility. But the DOD (and counterparts in Europe) must realize that they will have negligent discharges if their gun requires a trigger pull and they will simply exclude any gun that has that. Glock will be shut out from military contracts if it doesn't change.

Glock executives must realize they have no future in government sales unless they do something about this. And it's obvious they care about government sales; they went so far as to design a ridiculously crippled gun with a totally different action, just to make sales to specific German police forces. They care a lot about government sales.

This is nice for us in California for one major reason: the current Glocks (all generations) can't really be modified to have a mag disconnect because it would make disassembly pretty weird (remove mag, eject round, empty mag, insert mag, pull trigger, remove mag, disassemble). If they change their disassembly to remove the trigger pull, adding a mag disconnect and getting it on the roster would be pretty easy, and they obviously do care about the California market.
