    Shooting with mounted light

I just installed a TLR-3 on my HD gun. It is nice and bright and makes a huge difference in a dark room.

Does anyone know where I can go and shoot in the dark? Does anyone know of any indoor ranges in the SoCal area that offer no light or low light shooting?

    Thanks,
A gun in your hand is better than a cop on the phone.

BTW, when did the bar get set so low?

Take Stan's low light class (look in the Training forum).

I doubt any ranges offer that due to safety concerns. You'd have to take a lowlight class as mentioned by superset

          Thanks,
I find magnum range in Ontario to be poorly lit, and also the unaffiliated Dave's Magnum range in San Bernardino to have poor lighting as well.

Before shooting with the flashlight mounted, I recommend trying the Chapstick or Vaseline trick. It's been outlined a few times on here.

To the_tinman - and all, I just searched for Chapstick and Vaseline trick but came up with nothing. Can you please give me the quick run down or point me in the right direction? It is a new one to me. Thanks

I cover my light with electrical tape.

I read a thread a while back where somebody recommended smearing a small amount of Chapstick or the equivalent on the lens of the flashlight to ease clean up after shooting and getting burnt powder on the lens. I guess that's the basic theory, I've never tried it, I'll try to find that thread.

Ok then, the idea is "pre-protecting" the lense. Hmmm , makes me think it mine lessen the volume or quality of the light. But makes me think even more of the next idea: a light hard car wax on the lenses before hand (wax the lense)? Then you get all the benefit of the ease of cleaning and near perfect light out at the same time.

You will most likely find it easier to hit your target with a mounted light than under normal conditions. When I was a kid, I learned to shoot 22 peep sight rifles with no light except on the target...makes for a nice crisp sight picture. Same with my handgun set-up...
3 day waiting period???? but I'm mad now!!!!!!

If you are going to apply something to the lense why not a layer of clear tape instead of some waxy or pasty substance. Forget powder, what happens if you are using it at a class or range with a lot of dirt, it's going to attract it more, like a dirty paste. At least a piece of tape can be quickly pulled off like a they do in nascar with windshields.

Mite as well put it a sandwich bag if you wanna protect it or just give it a quick cleaning after 2 or 3 mag dumps

I've heard that a rail mounted pistol light can increase potential for malfunction? FTFeed specifically? Any truth?
