    Lipsey J-frame “ ultimate “ vs Ruger LCR ~

These “ custom “ j- frame revolvers come up in my feed, and I keep comparing them to the lcr, and maybe they just copied some features from the Ruger.

Basically the Ruger weighs 13.5 oz and is in 38spl +P rated, polymer frame, fluted cylinder, and you could change the front sight to a big dot trillium front.

The “ custom “ lipsey 32h&r magnum - is a smaller round, but holds 6 rounds, has a ti cylinder ( to keep weight down ), and has a front tritium sight, and a tuned trigger pull.

Now - the Ruger is a better caliber (38spl+ P), weighs about the same ( and is a bigger sd round ), and has a nice trigger, plus front sight can be replaced, along with about the same quality and around $100 dollars cheaper .

I’ve onwed the aluminum, Ti, and Scandium J- frames, as well as the Ruger lcr 38spl, so is the “ Ultimate “ smith really that special? The lcr is a bit bigger but just as good - I can see were both j-frame sized guns have some purpose, but the invention of the lcp max, sigp238, 365, shield plus, hellcat etc really offer the shooter a better platform. So what am I missing here

Yes, but again is it the ultimate ( that they claim it to be ) or did Lipsey just add some features that the lcr already had.

I don’t really see the Lipsey or lcr as ultimate revolvers or j frames. I think they do have a purpose - but smh when a j-frame is being touted as the ultimate or best in its class.

I don’t get the hype - so I’m asking did I miss something here or is this just promotional advertising. Thank you.

I can totally see the argument that the SW442/662 is not the "ULTIMATE" carry, but I personally do want a snub nose 38SPL among my three limited choices because it fills a niche.

I put on VZ grips on my stock 442 Professional, and the real only failing is the sights and trigger, and as a hidden hammer DA only that trigger can only be tuned so far, and NEVER on par with a striker let along a single action.

Would another round be appreciated in the cylinder? Yes, but that comes at a cost of going with 32 and ballistic capability drops off dramatically or going with the 6 shot 38 SPL the gun becomes noticeably larger. Yes, its still a small gun, but at the of the day my desired use when I carry a Snub Nose is really concealment a priority and it's going to be close quarters anyway so that extra round isn't as important as the ballistics.

Going off MSRP the Lipshy is only a few dollars more than the Ruger and I think the rear sight is much better. The Ruger and Lipshy are both mid $700 without modification and the SW442 stock is is mid $500, and the same size revolver and caliber in the SW Bodyguard is $449 THREE HUNDRED DOLLARS LESS THAN THE RUGER and Lipshy with the same capacity and ballistic capability.

The Lipshy does have the much better rear sight for all that.

Oh wow just checked, the 442 Professional with moon clip capability is DISCONTINUED (I only got mine last year). They still offer it for the 642.

I wont be carrying moon clips for reloads. I carry a strip. But I like how the clip makes the all the brass fall out TOGETHER and easier with the weight of each other. So that helps in the reload and while qualifying for quick reloads for the next string of fire.

Thank you for the above post 🙂. I carried a couple of J- frame 38’s and they do serve a purpose.

Yea, it's not my "primary", it's my "I need to really not be noticeable" which is when I dress up nicer.
