    Dad's gun

So, a couple of Christmas' ago my dad sadly passed away. I spoke to him every day of my life, and still think about him every day now. While cleaning out his apartment, I found pieces of his old 1911 in a rusty box outside on the terrace. I took it to a gunsmith in NY where he lived to see about having it restored and it just sat there for a year. I finally gave up and picked up the gun...had it transferred to my name with CA DOJ and shipped it home. A LEO friend told me to take it to Bolsa Gunsmithing in Westminster and they procured all the missing parts and fitted it together for me. It shoots great and I know my dad would have been thrilled to see me enjoying it.

Great job. Your pops would be happy for both you and his/yours 1911.

Very cool. I am restoring a USMC sabre that was my dads. Were all the parts in the box? Great job!

No. It was missing a lot of parts. Most of the replacement pieces came from Wilson Combat.

                      Very nice!
From the first picture it looks like the barrel had been cut in half?
Glad to see it working again.

1911 barrels used to be made of 2 pieces. Perhaps that one broke/came apart thus how it ended up in a box in pieces.

In that case, you used really good replacement parts for your Dad's 1911. Entirely appropriate, and well done.

First, let me say that even with the loss of your father's passing, you were very fortunate to have spoken with him every day of your life. You had a great relationship with him!
Second, glad you found the box with the 1911 parts and Lastly, Bolsa did a fine job on assembly and restoration!
Enjoy that 1911 as a remembrance of your father!
