Differences between CA ruger 22/45 and standard

Does anyone have one of the CA formatted tiger mark iv 22/45 pistols? If so, in what ways does it differ from the standard model?

Sellers seem to all use the same photo so I can’t really tell if it’s got a goofy loaded chamber indicator or a magazine disconnect.

The Cal approved 22/45 def has a magazine disconnect, it's in the description, but in the image on the Ruger website for the California approved SKU, no overt, big ugly LCI is present like my Shield 1.0 has.

Rimfire pistols don’t need CLI (different from LCI) to get on the CA roster. They just need magazine disconnect mechanism. That’s why it’s easier for manufacturers to get the rimfire semi-auto pistols on the roster than centerfire guns, no CLI needed.

i own a Ruger 22/45 and shoot it just about every time I go to the range, with the exception of IDPA competitions. The only difference from this CA version and a free market 22/45 is the serial number. All else is the same.

I was able to handle a standard mark iv yesterday and it was really nice. Do you find the balance on the 22/45 to be affected by the plastic frame at all? I’m considering it for practice since I prefer my 1911 over other pistols but I haven’t been able to hold one yet.

Have you considered a .22 conversation kit for it? Cheaper and maybe you can by the 11% extortion fee.

I’d prefer a separate pistol and I’ve heard mixed things about the gsg and similar 1911s in .22. The ruger seems like a pretty fantastic .22 pistol by all metrics. Even if I didn’t get the 22/45 I’d probably still go with it.

Of course the excise tax totally blows but sometimes you just need to buy a gun.

I agree, it's hit or miss with a kit I've read. My sons both have the gag pistol. One no problem, the other the rear sight slid out the dovetail after a couple of trips. I offered to peen it and pound it into place. He said he'll take care of it. That was a couple of years ago. I guess he's not in a hurry.

I bought Mark IV 22/45 a few months ago and like it very much, except for tendency for front site to loosen up. Needed Loctite. In find it much more natural in pointing vis-a-vis Rugers and other pistols with more extreme grip angles -- a tendency that began with original Colt Woodsman. I shoot the others but 22/45 grip angle is much better, as those with similar angles such as S&W Model 41.

I do find it to be affected by the plastic frame. It's lighter than I want it to be, by far. Probably because I'm used to shooting my Model 41 so much. However, aftermarket metal frames exist and are sold for this gun (around $500) or so. But if you just want the heavier weight/feel, get the standard MkIV with the Luger-like grip.

And yes, the front sight did fall off and so did a screw on the rear sight. But I just put them back on and loc-tited them. Ruger quality lol

I don't like the Glock/Luger sweep of the grip so I got a MkIV 22/45 and love it. I got it at Scheels in 2021 for $400 brand new out the door (they honored the mis-marked price in the glass case of $369, no DROS or CA "safety tax" and no waiting period). Since all my guns are closer to the 1911 grip angle, this gun points naturally for me. If you want a red dot for it, consider the Maddmacs plate. It is very low profile and fits on the holes of the scope base so you can keep your front and rear sight attached. Less than $70. It's a good idea to use blue Locktite on the base and red dot.
