making the case for why you choose your caliber...

we all have reasons we like certain calibers, so I thought I'd see who's shooting what caliber, and why....

I'm shooting a Glock Model 17 9MM for a couple reasons... first and foremost, because 9MM ammo is EVERYWHERE! in a SHTF kind of scenario, it would be one of, if not the easiest to find ammunitions. second, it's relatively inexpensive to shoot, so I can maximize my range dollars and get the most shooting practice possible to sharpen / improve my skills & accuracy.

so what is your caliber choice, and why?

I shoot a lot of .38's, because I love my wheelguns*, and nearly everyone I know has a .38 or .357 of some sort. I still have quite a bit of factory ammo, but I almost have a gallon jug worth of cases... I think it might be about time I get a kit to reload!

*I thought the S&W 19 had a great trigger, but the trigger on the .38 M&P feels like an Angel hand polished it with butter! I don't think I can go back to anything made post WWII... and polymer just seems ludicrous now?!?

absolutely true for those who own a lot of guns in various calibers / gauges...

I do believe that 9mm is an excellent choice. It was my first choice and I had all the same reasons as you. Unfortunately I did not have a sufficient stock on hand before the riots because I did not think the riots would hit LBC.

The best caliber choice is the one I reload... and shoot often.

The fate of the wounded rest in the hands of the ones who apply the first dressing.

I used to reload 45acp for uspsa single stack competition...
Then I switched the press to .40 when I started shooting limited sense you can get more round in the mag vs 45.
I still shoot single stack but I purchased one in 40 so I could shoot the same load on both pistols.
I just started loading 223 for 3 gun..
So every caliber I load shoot has to do with what ever I'm competing with at that particular time :!
                          Cheers,

Why pick one caliber? I have quite a few. As long as there are ammo on the shelves I will probably be OK.

I'm not a fan of brand loyalty, or caliber loyalty.

Beretta 92FS. Much the same reasons. Ammo is cheaper and recoil's easier to manage. It's just a more comfortable calibre to practice with. I don't have the same trouble flinching or anticipating the shots like I do with .40 S&W (least favorite calibre) or even .45 ACP (too damn expensive to shoot paper targets)
