    92FS feeding issue

First, before I sound like an idiot, I am a shooting newb.

I just bought a 92fs and went shooting with it for the first time on Saturday. Everything pretty much went well except for the fact that I had some feeding issues. I asked one of the guys at the range and he said he thought it was because the magazine was tight and the cartridge was not being pushed completely into the back of the magazine. I didn't really have much in terms of problems after that.

Does that sound like that would be cause the problem I am having? Could it be that the gun needed to be oiled? let me know what you guys think.

    Thanks in advance!

Did you clean it before going to the range? Most people on the forum would suggest cleaning before shooting for the first time. I have a Beretta M9 and I didn't clean it, but I was lucky and didn't have any feeding issues.

I also saw another user post this video on a different post, it might help you.

Sorry i can't give credit to the user, i can't remember who they are.

My first Beretta (brand new in box), I didn't clean out the grease/cosmoline in the slide. And it ejected, but failure to load (FTL). After I did that, had no issues with it or it's 3 brothers... We're on about 7k rounds so far.

The only OTHER time I had issues was when I dropped one of my mags and -bent the feed lips. Jam-o-matic. Threw away the mag. Not worth it.

So, I'm VERY happy with them - like other guns, plenty reliable...

New pistol? If so, give it another few hundred rounds to break in.

Break in applies to 1911's, not 92's....

Huh? Why would it only apply to 1911s? Lol.

If you buy a Kimber or other high end 1911 (and I assume you do), the are tighter than hell and they recommend a couple hundred rounds before complaining about their reliability.

Beretta 92/96 series, Ruger P series are all pretty loose (lock up pretty tight, but don't have a front bushing).

Berettas and Rugers I know don't say anything in the manual about 'breaking them in'. Or that silliness about loading a mag and letting it sit for a week....

              .

My new 92FS did the same thing first time out, I oiled the beejezus out of the slide and it never had a problem after that.

Beretta like to run wet. Be sure to have plenty of grease on the slides. Also a healthy spray of dry lube inside the mags can help. If you still are having problems try a stronger recoil spring.

A friend of mine seemed to fail to chamber after almost every round. Shoots a little limp wristed. Complained that it was my gun, till I took it and fired all 8 remaining rounds of that mag, plus all 10 of another one in rapid succession. Perhaps it's because the barrel doesn't tilt as the slide goes back? I've never had a failure to feed.
