I think S&W will shoot themselves in the foot with that MSRP, no pun intended. Especially the model 10.
You can still pick up a pencil barrel model for around $500 in 95%+ condition with box from the late 60s and early 70s. There are tons of them still and the bluing back then was leaps and bounds over the new stuff. I just grabbed a 10-5 a few months ago locally. Complete with box and papers for $495.

Was thinking the same thing. I mean I'm glad they did it but I'll never pick one up for those prices

Good to see no-locks coming back - but geez $1000 and you don't even get checkered grips on that Model 10??

              i'd definitely consider a 2 1/2" roundbutt 19.

                They are definitely pricey.

I was issued a 6 inch, pencil barrel Mod 10 in the academy. I turned it back in when I bought my 6 inch Mod 19 to carry. Stupid me, I could have kept it upon retirement. Every time I go into a gun shop I look to see if they have one.

I know that most rail against the storage lock, and I suppose it's a plus that these guns are without it. But the frame from the top at the rear sight to the top of the grip was changed to accommodate the lock. It's much shallower than the J and K, L frames without the lock. Just looks odd.

Smith keeps bringing back "classics" that are almost right. With a lot of the older stuff costing the same or less and able to use C&R/COE - am not too hot on buying. The Outdoorsman has me a bit interested though.

The whole point of those particular models is to be affordable for people who aren't rich. The Model 10, historically, did not cost an arm and a leg. Even on Gunbroker, I'm seeing S&W Highway Patrolman revolvers for the $700's, and that's a Highway Patrolman (N-frame), a classic wheelgun.

The problem is that even Ruger, the "working man's" firearms company, has hiked their revolver prices a lot, too, comparable to S&W's. And don't even get me started on Colt.

For some reason, at the present moment, revolvers are being priced to the moon. I'm not sure why, but they are. Meanwhile, Glock-style semi-auto pistols remain quite affordable. Even certain 1911's--and I mean some pretty decent ones--are going for considerably less.

Glad I got what I wanted when I did.
