Beretta 92FS Upgrades

I am a new gun owner and just got my first 92FS. Are there any upgrades you guys would recommend? I was thinking about upgrading the recoil spring from plastic to metal, but that's all I really have thought off (is that even worth it?).

If you want a metal guide rod, that's fine, but there's no benefit in reliability or function over the plastic rid. Your best bet would be the "D" spring to lighten the double action trigger pull. Beyond that, just pick up as much ammo as you can afford & get some good instruction from a professional!

I put the D spring on mine with an Elite skeleton hammer along with the extended magazine release.

I put on the SGS style comp made by Ric Gandy and that also replaces your guide rod with a stainless one, Elite II hammer, D-spring, and Hogue wrap grips.

I have an older 92FS ( 1992 ) but the first and ONLY modification off the bat was the grips (see the above picture). I totally despised the plastic grip covers. I got a Hogue grip and it feels great. I got another one for my Colt M4.

Like others have said...a trigger/action job. A skeletonized hammer if it doesn't have one already...cause they're cool. Extended mag release button.

Additionally, night sights. Laser grips. And I'd see if the safety can be converted into a decocker only. But that's just me.

I like the classic look and feel of the 92FS and probably won't mess with anything else. It's already got the most crisp SA trigger of anything I own besides the Sig 1911.

The D spring is really the only upgrade that you should do at this point. Other than that, a case or two of ammo and a lot of range time.

IF you have a problem hitting the slide release without shifting your grip too much, then you could consider a larger magazine release button and/or clipping a coil or two from the magazine release spring.

DON'T waste your money on fancy rubber grips, especially the wrap around kind as they will only serve to increase the already too large grip size. If the grip is a little big for you to fire in DA mode or hit the magazine release w/out shifting your grip, then you might consider the ultra thin Hogue Extreme or G10 grips, or the Trausch grips.

I likewise would not waste my time replacing the plastic parts on your pistol unless they give you problems (highly unlikely). The plastic recoil guide rod is actually a product improvement as the cruciform shape will help channel debris around the recoil rod improving reliability in sandy conditions.

If you intend on shooting the piss out of your Beretta, you could consider installing Red Buffs. I have used them in my Berettas with tens of thousands of rounds and have not had one failure due to them. That said, unless you are shooting a lot or a lot of high pressure loads, they are really not needed in a 9mm.

Install the D spring and then go out and shoot the gun as it was meant to be shot. You can always figure out what else you need later.

Short of purchasing a 92G slide, this is not possible.

Per the James Yeager video- everyone wants to tinker, change and upgrade their new firearms. He suggests just going out and shooting the hell out of a stock weapon. Learn what works and how it works. Before you invest a lot of time and energy into a pistol, get to know it super well and how it runs.
