Local Gunsmiths?

Can anyone recommend a gunsmith in the OC area that is good for installing sights?

Anywhere EXCEPT Bolsa Gunsmithing. I read/heard some terrible reviews on them and won't even consider.

I've heard of OC gunsmiths(at Ades gunshop) and Evans gunsmithing. Neither are very close to me in HB. Any knowledge of them r any others?

Funny, I'm in HB too. I also asked earlier for smiths regarding my Colt 1991A1. Seems folks aren't responding to these requests much and the "smith" searches aren't hitting much.

You can go to the 1911 forum and get smiths galore but of course, they all require shipping which adds another $70 to the job. Heck, If you want a $100 trigger job, that's a deal breaker. I'll lurk and we'll see what pops up. Good luck!

AT Custom in Gardena, and Bain and Davis in San Gabriel. The two I used and would recommend.

Ammo Bro in Cerritos has an on-site gunsmith. Sharpshooter in Torrance also does some 1911 work.

I recommend Pete at Bain and Davis in San Gabriel. They did a very good trigger job on my CZ. They take a while, but are worth it,

Sorry brother i respect your position but word of mouth reference is paramount for me when deciding on a service. I dont like to waste my money 1st then decide how I feel.

Glock sights are the easiest to install. I think the first pair of Glock sights took me less than 5 minutes to install many moons ago.

Most front sights come with the required tool. simply screw off and on the front sight. The rear sight requires a nonmarring punch, weighted hammer and a vice (not needed, but recommended). You can also use a C-clamp.

Place the slide in the clamp and drift the existing plastic sights out. Should only need one or two wacks. Install the new sights, the opposite way. You can use gun oil to help move the sights into the slide. Use blue loctite once you like your POA/POI.

How do you apply the loctite once the sight is already in place?

Loctite is only placed on the hex screw for the front sight and rear sight.

You can unscrew the hex screws once the sights are in place, they won't move.
