Love custom 1911 single stacks but end up using double stack 1911 in 40 or 2011 in 40 more

I also like single stack 1911’s, maybe one day I’ll find myself buying a 2011.

It’s a cool platform but these days there are many 40-50oz guns like shadow 2 and p320 sxg that are fraction of the cost of 2011, so you really have to love the 2011 platform to dive in

I own most of what was on that table from the likes of Armand Swenson, Jim Hoag, Austin Behlert, etc. The guns built by the innovators are where its at. None of these current Wilson, Baer or Nighthawks would even exist without the forward thinking ideas of the these builders from the 60s, 70s and 80s.

Speaking of, here is one that I currently have posted in the classified for anyone who would like to delve into the custom 1911 world.

And here's what they look like hot-rodded... I wonder if John Moses Browning would recognize his baby underneath all that customization.

Here’s some of my custom 1911’s ~ funny how they appear bout the same, but I prefer the Nighthawk a bit over the Wilson. Both are fine and durable pistols. Enjoy 😎

Of the top smiths today, that have not closed their books, who would you send a colt base gun to for a full custom job.

I’ve wondered the same thing. All the high end smiths I have reached out to aren’t taking work. I am sure someone will chime in with someone I haven’t heard of that is doing great custom 1911s

Unfortunately, the likes of Yost, Chen and burton or Reid, etc are years out if they are even taking in new work at all. Many of the lesser known smiths are doing great custom work.

I sent my EDC gun to Jon Motschenbacher at Master Gunworks and he did a complete build on it. His books are about 6 months out right now

                        Slide to frame fitment
                        Bull barrel to slide fitment
Tons of machine work (french border, slide top)
Hand checkered the front strap and rear of slide.
                        Ball cuts
                        Sight dovetails and install
                        Beveled the mag well
                        Action job,
                        Trigger job
The list goes on and on...

I’ve been raised growing up on 1911’s and steal and wood revolvers, but I’m not a real high end 1911 owner.
I’ll say this though ~ I own a Wilson and a Nighthawk 1911 and those 2 pistols are durable and reliable. I personally would send the Colt to Nighthawk, they also have ( from what I hear very good customer service. Of the cqb and grp ~ I like the Nighthawk the best. Anyways good luck and I’m sure you will have very good results any way you go
