Ruger MKIII or SR22P

Which one?

I can't really decide which one i want more........

The MKIII will likely last forever, be more accurate

The SR22P is cheaper compared to the model MKIII I want....

help me decide

I say the MKIII. It may be a pia to take apart and put back together at first but gets easier with time. Also unless you just don't care about accuracy the MK will be fun and very accurate compared to the SR. I do have a SR22 and I will say it is a fun little 22 but the trigger reset is terrible. I also had a MKIII and I wish I hadn't sold it.

Another vote for the Ruger. The Mark III is just such a good value but lately prices have been catching up. Might be inflation based, anyway its a great plinker and you can turn them into world class shooting rigs with all the aftermarket attention they get. I have had two; a Mark III 22/45 and a 60th Anniversary Mark III Target which I stupidly sold for really cheap.

Both guns are rugers. My ffl said he got a sr22 at his shop the other day and the frame had a hairline crack right under the serial number. He was saying sure it happens from time to time but he was shocked that of the several times the serial number was logged at the factory nobody noticed it.

SR22 = smaller, lighter, less accurate but faaarrr easier to disassemble, clean and reassemble.

MKIII = larger, heavier, more accurate and a PITA to disassemble, clean and reassemble.

I looked hard at the MKIII, it is a great gun but it is pretty difficult to clean. I ended up buying an SR22 for my daughter exactly for the reasons outlined.

There really is no question. The classic MK-series guns are really without equal. The whole PITA to clean rap is also way overblown. Yes, it takes a time or two to learn, but after that, once you "got your technique and everything" it is an absolute breeze, and the gun is very easy to clean, as a result.

A third suggestion, might be to look for a nice lightly used MKII model. I only say that because it would be even less expensive, and also not have that silly LCI cut right into the receiver. Just a thought.

Get the Mk! You said yourself it will last forever and be more accurate! FOr the amounts of money you might save, I would not shackle myself with a gun that was "less accurate" than the one I might have bought.

Just think of the pennies you'll save when you hit the target in one shot instead of 2! That could add up to 10's of dollars over the years!

As others mentioned, the MK III is likely to be more accurate. The SR-22 is fun if you want a "tactical" 22.

Another option is the Browning Buckmark. Far easier to disassemble and clean, but I heard the very base model comes with a plastic rail that holds the gun together by 2 screws that can crack if not careful. The models higher than the standard Camper has a metal rail and this isn't an issue.

I personally own a 22/45 MK III and love it.

The two are different category and it's not an either/or proposition, so you should look at SR22 in the future now that you have your accurate plinker. As pointed above, SR22 is a "tactical gun," so it's also about practicing holstering, drawing, decoking, DA first shot followed by SA, weak hand shooting, field stripping, etc.

The trigger is pretty gritty, particularly in the DA mode, though. A lot of fun otherwise.

You will not be sorry. The Mark III Stainless is a fantastic pistol. Your grandkids will shoot it. They are indestrubtible, accurate, and reliable.

Do not worry about the assembly/disassembly. It just takes a few times to get the gun loosened up and for a new Mark user to get the hang of it. You will love your new Mark!

I know that I'm late to the game, but I have the Mark III Target Stainless, and boy is it a fun gun to shoot. I read that it was best to get some rounds through it to get the springs loosened up a little bit before first dis-assembly.
