    kimber wont feed

i just purchased a kimber ultra compact for carry and when i load a mag and release the slide the bullet just hits the frame and ramp and just dead stops, i have to wiggle slide to get it to load. ive only owned nicer fullsize springfields and nicer 1911s so im wondering is this a common 3" problem or kimber problem or just new?

any info would be appreciated thanks.

What kind of ammo was it? Round Nose or Hollowpoints?

Are you slingshotting the slide or just releasing it using the slidestop? Try only slingshotting the slide.

I've heard those Ultra's can be finicky.

Good luck, hope you get things worked out.

have you broken it in with any roundballs to make sure the gun ran OK?

try polishing the feed ramp if you cant shoot enough for the break in since hollow point ammo likes smooth feed ramps

Don't polish the feed ramp yourself. If you gun is broken, send it back to Kimber until it works.

If you just got it, break it in first with regular ball ammo before using anything else

I bought my wife an Aegis II Pro and it had problems feeding and extracting. She was using Federal AE 9mm FMJ 115Gr. Guy running the range said it might have been the magazine. Ended up selling it. Sorry to hear your having issues with yours.

Hardball for the win I also have 0 issues if I use the slide stop when using HP's.

I chamfer all the barrels in my 1911's then polish. This a standard procedure in carry and reliability service packages. If not comfortable having it done send it back.

I have had issues with my kimber and federal ammo , heard a lot of people have the same problem . I have a custom cdp 2 . I wanted it for conceal carry but due to unreliability it won't be . Send it back and have them fix it .

                    I don't know.....,
I, along with 2 different friends of mine, have the Ultras and none of us has ever had a problem - even during break-in.
We all got them about the same time and all 3 guns have been flawless.
Kimber CS will tell you to go thru the break-in period.
If it still isn't working then, I would send it back instead of paying to have any work done on it.

i only shot it once so i havent been able to try different stuff, i just started with federal brass target ammo and it did it dropping the slide and trying to help it. i came home tried my other mags didnt really help, i tried my magtech hollowpoints and that was like hitting a brick wall. ill probably try polishing feed ramp and shooting it more to break it in. just want this thing perfect before i carry.

i was hesitant about the whole kimber thing i really wanted a v10 or micro or defender so hopefully it works out.

The feed lip on the barrel chamber is sharp when it comes from the factory and if the lip itself has any burs or what not it will have a feed problem. My combat commander needed the barrel chamfered and polished due to the fact it was not feeding consistantly with different kinds of ammo. I do this to all my 1911's. Thats the point of having aftermarket gunsmithing work done to your firearm. To ensure reliability. I want my 1911 to shoot any ammo reliably because you never know what kind of situation you might be in. A professional aftermarket carry job on a 1911 will make that gun 10X better than when received from the factory.

I had a Kimber Pro that had feeding issues...after 500 rounds I sent it back to Kimber and they not only polished the feed ramp, they also changed the spring and adjusted the extractor...

                          It has shot perfectly since.
