    SA Milspec project

So I had a few parts laying around for projects that never got off the ground. Decided to find a stainless Milspec for a bit of "Homeboy" gunsmithing and found this one on a local forum that was advertised as unfired outside the factory. The price was right, so after picking it up, I took it to the range to make sure it would go bang. It did and was actually an excellent shooter. The slide/frame and barrel/bushing fit are excellent and even the factory trigger was pretty good.

The first thing I did was fit an Ed Brown forged concealment GS (.250 radius). Then I fit a Harrison Design retro flat MS housing (took a bit off the edges and blended to the lower frame). I installed a C&S 4 lb. tactical ignition system, an Ed Brown forged thumb safety, and a Harrison Design medium smooth trigger. I had an old stainless Colt slide stop in the parts box so in it went. I gave the gun a slight carry bevel and a light polish of the feed ramp and barrel, and then took it back to the range to make sure it still functioned. It did and shot even better for me (must have been the trigger and BT). Off it went to my local smith for a bead blast and then the slide went to John Harrison for a dovetailed gold bead front sight and his excellent retro rear. A set of slim VZ grips from a DW Valor rounded everything out.

I put a couple of boxes of ball through it the other day and it shoots great. The trigger is about perfect, and the Harrison sights give an excellent sight picture and are spot on. Very happy with the way the gun came out.

Very nice. Awhile back I picked up a SA Loaded Target 9mm that I plan on doing some work on also I just need to find the time. Enjoy that nice shooter you just built.

When did arched mainspring housings become verboten?
Dr. Goldstein showed us the way. We dropped the ball. Pick up the ball.

Is John Harrison still doing sight work? I have a couple slides I'd love for him to add the retro rear and a dovetail front (white ball).

Sure is. Took about two weeks to get the slide back.

Congrats, nicely done. I have a small critique though, not on your workmanship which is quite impeccable.
Its the extractor tail. Its protruding and not blended nicely to the frame. I noticed that on almost all Springfield 1911.
Now I know there will be those who would argue: " it does not affect function ", or " it is not a custom product, if you want a perfectly fitted 1911 then buy yourself a custom piece ". To which I retort, " its damn made in America, that simple
blending should be perfect, production level gun or not ". I have not seen much of that on Rock Island 1911 or Tisas 1911 both of which are cheaper foreign made, nor do I have seen that on Kimber, Sig, or Smith & Wesson 1911 all are factory
American made not custom pieces ".

Is the extractor pinned or still glued as it came from the factory?

Thanks for the comments. I purposely left the extractor "proud" of the slide because it's flash chromed (or hard chromed or some type of plating) vs being stainless. I didn't want to blend it and remove the plating, and it wasn't as bad as I've seen on some guns. The ejector (which is what I think you meant instead of extractor) is pinned vs glued.

I dont't know. I have both flat, and arched. I can't tell the difference, in how I shoot either.
