S&W J frame revolver super light SA trigger.

First revolver, a S&W model 63-5 22lr. The single action is a hair trigger. Very little pressure needed to drop the hammer. It almost feels unsafe even if it's just a range gun. Am I over exaggerating or are S&W revolvers trigger this light?

I have an ancestor, a 70-year-old S&W pre-Model 43, which is really quite rare. It also has what one might call a hair trigger,. but I just consider it to be a really great kit gun.

My experience with most double action revolvers....2 1/2-5 pound single action pull, 7-14 pound double action pull. So yeah, its normal.

Just shoot it double action. I had a 25-5 that was the same way, seem to be optimised for double action.

J frame doesn't have a strain screw to adjust or uses a leaf spring.

Not that I don’t believe you, but there’s not one definition of what a “hair trigger” is. In another thread, someone said their SIG P320 had a “hair trigger” of 5-6 lbs. or something like that. Some people consider “hair triggers” to be 3 lbs. Personally, I’ve considered that term to be triggers below 2 lbs.

Have you measured that trigger with a scale to see what the weight is?

But to answer the question, yes, Smith revolvers can definitely be worked to have extremely light triggers.
