Sig 229R Carry?

I bought a Sig 229 Scorpion a few weeks ago and Im thinking about carrying it as a CCW gun. This gun has no safety on it. Has anyone had any issues with this?

just make sure you get a good holster with a good trigger guard. unless im missing something, it does have a safety, its called double action. and no, ive had no issues when carrying my p229r as my ccw.

I know the double action is considered the safety. When you can still pull the trigger it doesnt seem that safe. But yes I guess the answer is a good holster.

The safety is your trigger finger and the thingy between your ears...your brain. Enjoy your 229! :-D

If you can somehow accidentally pull the trigger in DA mode and make it fire that would be quite impressive. Don't worry about that on this pistol. As has been said a good holster is all you need. Now if it were a Glock on the other hand...

Revolvers don't have safeties either. Now if it were a Glock on the other hand...

The safety is the thing between your ears and the other one is the 10lb da trigger.... between both of those you should be more than fine or you shouldn't be carrying. A good holster like a Crossbreed should make you feel more confident as well

The DA pull on my P229 is 11 lbs. The only way it's going off is with your finger.

Just don't carry it cocked.

If you are used to 1911s then this is strange, but Sigs have several internal safety mechanisms that are enabled as long as the hammer isn't cocked.

If I could get a LTC where I live then I would also carry a 229.

Yeah these are my first Sigs and my main carry guns have been 1911's. Im just use to hammer back and ready to go!

it was a decent question and you got answers. i wouldnt feel comfortable carrying something if i didnt know the ins and outs of how it performs as a ccw either.

Nothing more to add than the good advice already given above. And a third on the Glock risks. But I just had to say those are beautiful guns. I am a Sig fan (obviously) and they look sweet. Enjoy.

You know why popular duty guns like Sigs, Glocks and HKs are made without safeties? Cops were pulling their guns and forgetting to disengage their safety, getting themselves killed. Nothing safe about that.

Yep. I carried a USP40 for over a year. Many times when drawing, I would in inadvertently engage the safety. If I tried with the safety on, I would disengage and have the decocker depressed, causing the gun not to fire.

I'll take a XD or Sig (in that order) any day.

My P228 is a bit large and blocky for concealed carry, but I do carry it with no issues. Most days, I carry either a G26 or the S&W 642. A great holster is a must. After years of using many different holsters (If I had a nickel...), I've settled on two. The N82 is very comfortable for IWB carry. It's a very simple design, but very nicely done. The Galco Fletch is my favorite for OWB carry. It has a thumb break for weapon retention, rides high, and has a forward cant. Don't worry about the P229 not having a safety. IMO that's a good feature.
