    P226 Factory grip differences

Anyone know which P226's (or what year P226's) came with the two different grips pictured below? I am trying to figure this out so that I can find and buy the style factory grip pictured first (I shot one recently with this flatter grip and like it better than the grip that is currently on mine:

I've been thinking of doing the E2 conversion but I would be perfectly happy with the 1st style below and worry that the E2 might be too different (havn't found an E2 at the range yet to test out)

    Style in question:

Style I have: (primary difference is the little "ridge" towards the top rear of the grip)

I don't know the exact dates but the ones with the ridge I believe are are more recent; I didn't care for them much. I would just look for an older set of stippled grips but make sure you have a compatible mainspring housing setup for the grips you get.

There have been so many grip incarnations on SIG pistols it was always confusing to me which ones where which because they weren't always consistent. IIRC, the checkered were the original, then came the stippled ones but they were smoothly stippled, then there were stippled ones that were rougher (like sandpaper), and then the ones with the "ridge" and the E2 of course.

I just got some E2 grips installed. I'll let you try it out if you like.

I recommend the E2 grips. They are only 55.00 shipped from top guns supply. Just intalled mine and they feel great. Cant wait to try them this wkend.

My ~2002 Sig had the ridged style, I changed it to E2s, and now it wears a set of Hogue G10's. The G10's are slimmer then the E2s by a little bit. I don't have the measurements with me, but it is noticeable enough that the E2s came off and the G10s went on.

I don't think you will be able to track down exactly when this change happened because Sig makes small changes to their designs without telling anyone, then for a while after the design change they sell both the old and new design concurrently.

You could ask TopGunSupply if they have any of the older style in backstock?

I have medium sized hands and my 228 fits my hand perfectly with the E2 grips and short trigger combo. They are very un-sig like though. No grip screws, you just slide the top portion on, then rotate them down towards the butt and they snap in place. Removal requires a bulky plastic knob that you rotate in the mag well to spread them apart. Maybe not as field serviceable, but a major ergonomic upgrade for shooters with small to medium sized hands.
