I'm with you 100% on this. I like my Kimber. If I want to pay big bucks for a 1911 I want an American made one, not from brazil or elsewhere. Although I have a RIA, it was only 500 bucks.sigpicComment

Meh... haters gonna hate.
At least yer going with a 1911 & not some piece of glop!
You were an armoror in the military dealing with 1911s & you're just now getting around to getting one? I'm pretty old & got ahold of some of the first M9s to come out....
Oh.. almost forgot. GIANTS SUCK! GO DOYERS!

Ummm I believe it's "dojjers" but I could be wrong on that..Meh... haters gonna hate.

Can't dispute the sucking part..at least right now...we'll see who's where on Sept. 1.
I've steered away from a 1911 in the past cause I thought they were overpriced for what they are. I could get a .40 or a .45 for less that works just as well.
I guess I'm getting older and although I have a .40 cal...I want a 1911 now.
Like I said, of the 1911's that fit into my needs and some of my wants, it looks like to me that the Kimber and also the Springfield LW Champion fit the bill. They are priced comparably but I'm leaning toward the Kimber unless someone has some reason that hasn't been previously mentioned as to why Kimber is an inferior product.
I'm going to pay between $850 to $1200 for the pistol. In that range there are a lot of choices. Kimber seems like a good choice.I can resist everything...except temptation. Wilde

Kimber choice
First off Thanks for your service, I own a Glock 17 and Glock 21 and have put over 1000 rds thru them and last month I bought a Kimber Custom TLE 2 SS and the first mag I shoot a 2" group at 35 ft that amazed me. I only shoot a 5" group with the Glocks.
I've had no issues with the Kimber at all and recomend them, I think its a good choice.
I have to put up with the Padres so dont complain

I'll weigh in on the subject as I have several 1911's from various manufacturers.
These are only my opinions, take them for what they are worth. You will make your own decisions.
American made - not a lot of options in that category. And frankly, for me, if someone makes a good 1911, I'll buy it.
Kimber - had them, didn't see all the fuss, kept only one. I have the Raptor. Only downside to the gun are the MIM pieces. NOT for the potential of breakage, but they don't hold the finish worth a carp. (not misspelled) Before I even got it to the range, the finish was coming off the safety and mag release. Not impressed by the rest of their offerings. (and I'm no snob)
Springfield Armory - look for a Mil-Spec or loaded with the NM serial if you just have to have, "American." And if the gun isn't bubba'd up, Springfield is good about their lifetime warranty, not just for the original purchaser. Read the stories on 1911forum. Springfield is a great company.
If you want the best of everything, high quality and American made, and you can afford it and find it, look into an excellent used Dan Wesson. I will never sell my Cbob.
There's also the Remington.
And so you know that I'm serious, here's a pic of my all my 1911s together. Although some have been sold and new ones purchased, it's still my preferred gun of choice.

Kimber customer service sucks. I would never buy a Kimber after dealing with them. Shipped a pair of Meprolight back to them and they lost it at the custom shop. Then they try to blame the delivery company about not delivering it. The tracking number said it was delivered. I called Kimber after delivery and they said they have the package, but the custom shop haven't open to examine the sights. 3 weeks go by and they said the package isn't at the custom shop. After some back and forth phone calls with Kimber, the manager (a woman - forgot her name) said to me since you brought insurance on it, then go ahead and file a claim. Seriously, I brought insurance because I read about how terrible Kimber customer service is and what do you know, it is true. P.O.S. company. I mean it is $100 retail for a set of meprolight and it cost them way less than that to make it. And to think they selling thousand dollar guns, but won't take care of a set of night sight. I mean goodluck to get them ship you a new gun if they didn't 'received' your gun when you shipped it back for any warranty works.
Kimber reluctantly send me another meprolight after I call back and ask the manager to make a statement to the delivery company about the package never got delivered. The next day, a guy from Kimber calls and said the new set is on the way.

Here's something for you to research about Springfield Armory. Search the web for the story about the guy that dropped his BRAND NEW pistol from his backpack on the FREEWAY after picking it up. I'll let you read it yourself. Don't want to give anything away. All I say is, like Ruger, they really know how to take care of a customer.

That is an amazing story! Thanks Ryan..I can't tell you how much I appreciate this. It should make my decision easier taking into consideration goldengate's glowing report of Kimber's CS..lolLast edited by giantsfan; 05-11-2012, 6:30 AM.I can resist everything...except temptation. Wilde
