    xd trigger

My brother in law is looking for his first handgun. After a trip to the range and renting/shooting various options we found that he shoots the Springfield xD very well. However his trigger finger barely reaches the trigger until about half way through the pull, which he is uncomfortable with. If the xdm was readily available (dont think hell want to deal with doing a sse) all would be good. Since its not, are there any options to adjust the trigger so its angle is changed or closer to the magwell. I see trigger job kits but those seem to be for reducing pull lbs.
So...any suggestions or is doing a sse on an xdm pretty much it?

    Thanks all

I have a factory XDM 9mm and XD45 compact with the PRP drop-in trigger kit. The XDM trigger is OK. It's not nearly as bad as the XD45 (which wasn't terrible, just kind of heavy and long). The PRP drop in kit shortens take up, lightens many things (trigger spring, sear spring, striker safety spring, striker spring), and replaces the trigger itself and sear safety lever. Trigger has a block on the back of it to prevent over-travel. I love how the trigger performs and it feels wonderful. It's not as crisp as a 1911, but without replacing the sear or doing any external gunsmithing work, it's very nice. Pulls smooth and light. Next time I have a spare hundred bucks laying around, I'll buy the same kit for my XDM.

If your brother's hands are that small, you might want to consider a different gun. I just installed tonight the PRP trigger with built-in over-travel stop (which is GREAT, by the way), but it doesn't change the reach distance that much for the XD.

He might look at a 1911 in .45 or 9mm, since the trigger reach should be less.

Try a few more guns... What will it hurt?

Hard for me to say that because the XDm couldn't be a better gun for me... Even if you got history's greatest weapons makers together to personally build a gun for me.

But that is me. So go shoot more guns!

An sse transaction isnt anymore complicated than the usual way of a firearm purchase in this nanny state. Dont be discourage by thinking that its a very complex way of obtaining evil unsafe offroster hanguns. It is nothing to worry about. Just choose the gun and buy.

The PRP kit definitely reduces the travel, but a different gun may be a better choice. Maybe a S&W M&P or a Walther PPQ would be worth looking at.

I have and XDM40 5.25 and use EBR Works magazine blocks to be CA. compliant. Use an SSE, get the XDM and have fun. I'm sending mine back to Springfield for a trigger job. If I install a DIY kit, I void Springfields excellent waranty. $195 and a 2 week turn around time and I have a fully warranteed gun. Dave williams at Springfield does great work.
Grip size and trigger reach for a shooter is important, but i don't think you're going to find a better feeling polymer pistol than the XDM series.

Thanks all for the input. He shot my E2 sig and Hipower, a M&P 9 and the XD 9. He liked the xd the best as well as shot it really well ( like 7 in the same hole...hes a natural, makes me sick) The Sig is more than he would like to spend. Ill look more into the sse route. Any recommended shops in the Inland Empire that would do a sse on an XDm?
