Is it just my imagination, or does the NRA have an issue with Glock? I never see ads or articles on their guns in American Rifleman, and when AR published a What's New in 2012 feature a few months ago, there wasn't Glock Perfection as far as the eye could see. Am I missing something?

No Love for Glock
"I'm your huckleberry..."Tags: None -
Because the NRA doesn't advocate for explosive devices...?
ATTN FEDERAL AGENTS: I DON'T ACTUALLY OWN ANY GUNS, I'M JUST HERE FOR THE EGO BOOST.Common sense is so rare these days that it really ought to be classified as a superpower. -
I doubt there is any animosity with news like this:
Glock Donates $115,000 during 2012 NRA Annual Meetings
GLOCK, Inc. donated a total of $115,000 to four separate organizations within the National Rifle Association (NRA) during the 2012 NRA Annual Meeting & Exhibits held in St. Louis, MO, April 12 - 15.
And this:
GLOCK's 25th Anniversary Featured in January 2012, NRA Shooting Illustrated Magazine
The January 2012 issue of NRA, Shooting Illustrated features GLOCK's 25th Anniversary Celebration in the U.S. The article, entitled, "25 Years of GLOCK; It has been an amazing quarter of a century for GLOCK, something even diehard 1911 fans will humbly admit," focuses on the anniversary, products and the commemorative pistol.Comment

Because the NRA leadership is a bunch of crusty old fogies who still cling to the misguided belief that a century-old pistol is somehow better because it has .45 caliber boolits that tear a man's arm clean off?

Read the book, Glock: The Rise of America's Gun by Paul Barrett and it will make a lot of sense. Glock has gone their own way and done what made the most sense for their company in direct definance of the NRA in the past. For a while there the leadership of the NRA was very radical. Characterizing law enforcement as a bunch of jack booted thugs out take away everyones guns. Glock's biggest customer was law enforcement. So that message was counter productive to Glock's goals, not mention just plain wrong. So Glock formed their own orginazation to represent the industry seperate from the NRA. This ticked off the NRA, as it divereted from their fundraising and added a new and and powerful voice to the mix that could negotiate with regulators without including the NRA in the discussions. Even though the NRA has returned to its more mainstream roots, probably as a direct result of more voices being added to the mix, they never really got over the fact that Glock made an end run around them.
Don't get me wrong. I am a member of the NRA and I support them. But I would not have supported some of the tactics used in the past had I been aware of them at the time, especially trying to paint police as the enemy. As with all orginzations, leadership changes with time. The NRA got lost there for a little bit.Last edited by tacticalcity; 05-07-2012, 6:18 PM.Comment

BINGO. In most magazines you will notice that the advertisers get the articles. That's just how it works, and I'd venture to say the the main reason some just OK guns become successful. Hmm....can we think of a mediocre gun that is advertised in every magazine and gets more ink and praise than it really deserves?Comment

DVSmith, that's very enlightening. Seems it's just my AR magazine that keeps the ugly pug guns at bay. tuna quesadilla, I've NOTICED crust starting to form on my frame. That explains it. tacticalcity, I read it, and while I considered that, I didn't think the NRA would harbor a big enough grudge to completely shut Glock out. DVSmith seems to have dispelled my suspicions, though."I'm your huckleberry..."Comment

I wouldn't say they do. The NRA advertises in Glock's magazines. That's not shutting them out. There is however, resentment between the two. Eitherway, it is not going to hurt Glock. They have the lions share of the marketplace, and have their own diverse marketing strategies to keep it that way. Glock is not going anywhere.DVSmith, that's very enlightening. Look at all the money that gets spent on color-coordinated Magpul furniture and accessories that add little to no functional value to a firearm. Gun ownership in general is absolutely a fashion show.Comment

I would wager that EVERY manufacturer has a few bones to pick with the NRA over something. And that is likely reciprocated by the NRA as well.Comment
