    Current Glock 17s

Been having bad luck with current G17s. Bought a standard black model last year. Failed to go into battery with 10rd and standard mags.

This year bought a G17 OD (impulse buy). Shot about 50rds. No problems. Felt confident I didnt get another lemon. Started a new box of ammo and started having failure to go into battery and several soft primer strikes.

On a side note. Last year I also bought Brownells RMR slides for my G17 and G34. Both of them consistently fails to go into battery. Trying to figure out if my Glocks out of spec. Or the RMR slides.

Why are you complaining here? Why aren't you talking to Glock about these stock guns having problems? The aftermarket slides are their own issue.

use 124 or 147gr ammo for the first few hundred rounds.

Was using 115gr PMC. Will try 147s.

              Bought 2 Glocks last year. G17 and a G34.
G17 had issues with going into battery with OEM slide and Brownells RMR.
G34 worked fine with OEM slide but had issues with going into battery with RMR.

Bought and G17 OD few months ago. Finally had to chance to go shoot it today at ASR.
With OEM slide first 50rds flawless. After that experience some soft primer strikes and failure to go into battery.
Tried runnng the G17 RMR slide from last year. Same issues as last year with my other G17.

I was having the same issue with my G17 bought in 2020 one time at the range with Fiocchi 115 gr. round nose bullets. I thought it might be the mags or the ammo. I was told by Glock it wasn't the mags it was me. I bought a Magpul mag and used the same ammo and it would not repeat the problem. I even tried limp wristing on purpose and still I could not get it to fail. Maybe it just needs more rounds through it to break it in. Now it runs flawless. Good Luck with it.

My gen 5 glock 26 had trouble with 115 when it was new out the box. Put 2 box's of 124 through it and now it eats anything.

I have two Gen3 G26's. The first was flawless with anything I fed it and never had any issues.
The second G26, was stovepiping and jamming a bit the first time I took it to the range. This was after retaining the Glock factory grease on the slide and just doing a light oiling before going to the range that first time. Ran 150rds through it during that first outing.
After that first range time, I field stripped again and used some Slip2000 grease in addition to the factory grease and ensured a light oiling on the non-sliding parts (Slip2000 EWL). Very well-lubed but not 'dripping'... I was concerned that the 2nd G26 was not going to be reliable or trustworthy.
Went to the range again and used both 115gr and 124gr ammo and never had another issue.
Don't know what the issue was since it was all factory/OEM mags, the G26 was sufficiently lubed for the range session, and I know I wasn't 'limp wristing' (especially since I also shot my first G26 during that range session and all was good).
Perhaps a fluke or just needed some break-in time.
OP - hope yours gets sorted out - good luck!

agree with comments regarding breaking in with couple hundred rounds124 gr ammo. it shouldn't be the case, but it is what it is. i've read posts where users have contacted glock cs and were given same info. it 100% resolved a myriad of issues i experienced with a new 26 i picked up awhile back.

This is interesting. I been carrying and shooting ( extensively) Glocks in 9mm for over 30 years. GEN2/3/5. Don't recall any issues AT ALL. However ALL my 9mm Glock experience is with unmodified stock guns , standard capacity factory magazines and duty JHP ammunition. To this day , Glock 9mm ( 17 or 19) is what I have on my hip daily.

Interesting, I have not has these issues with a couple of my G17s and a friend recently bought a new G17. He ran it without any prep and no issues at the range. I also use a Brownells G34 RMR slide on my one G17 frame with no issues, I do however use the Glock OEM slide parts in the aftermarket slide. These G17s hav seen 1000s of rounds, mostly 124gr, but also a lot of 115, some 147 and weird 165gr ammo.
When I do a drill loading one round in the chamber and drop the mag to fire, then dry fire straight after, I do get stovepipes at times. Not an issue when a mag is in. I also had one G17 Glock 10rd mag that had some extra plastic on the follower causing the follower to stick in the mag (one out of a bunch of mags), trimmed it and it worked fine after. Magpul mags run just fine too.

I don't clean my Glocks that often, especially the range ones, typical to see 500 -1000+ rounds between a field strip and cleaning. However when I do, I do clean the chamber properly and also the slide slots where it runs on the frame. A good visual inspection is always a good thing making sure there are no burrs or other issues in the chamber, the extractor looks in good condition and functions properly. Lastly a common mistake is that people lube the the internals of the slide, especially the firing pin area. That is a big no no! Glocks like to run dry and you only lube a few point on the frame rails, barrel where it wears on the locking mechanism and slide. Light primer strikes may be because there is lube in the firing pin channel, perhaps do a complete slide strip and clean out all debris and oil in the firing pin, safety pin and extractors parts/channels.
