I carry Glocks in 9mm for over 30 years now. I own two full size P320's that I enjoy shooting a lot. While overseas , "Glock Nine" ( that's how many people there call it ) seems to be a handgun of choice. Even though I DO like P320 a lot , I prefer carrying Glocks in 9mm.

Did you try P365 to carry?

The P320 is a great gun, but the trigger is really, really light, it's a "hair" trigger. The 365 has a much more "tactile" trigger break than the P320. It always surprises me how much lighter the break is in the P320 vs the P365.

As for being better than a Glock, If that means Glocks get cheaper I'm all for it. Nothing better than picking up a LNIB use Glock for pocket change.

Canadian Special Operations Forces Command adopted the SIG P320 in 2020.
Canadian Army adopted the SIG P320 in 2022, but delivery was delayed until recently due to budgetary reasons.

The Canadian Army RFP required a full sized pistol with a removable metal receiver in a polymer frame chambered in 9x19mm that used a 17 round magazine.
^The only competitors were the SIG P320 and the Beretta APX.
~The Glock Canada Distributor sued the Canadian Gov stating the contract was non-competitive because they were not eligible to compete in the contract.

The cost break down for the contract is approximately $460 USD for one SIG P320 (full sized, FDE color) with a (FDE) retention holster and five 17 round magazines.

If P320s are better than Glocks, how come SOCOM is still rocking several Glock variants instead of using the M17 like regular Army? Pretty sure SOCOM trains a lot more with handguns than regular Army.

Contract they can not get out from, probably

Because of how the US Military procurement system works.

US SOCOM adopts weapons that are not in the main branch system.
^And technically, on paper, they are viewed as mission specific supplemental weapons and not as replacements for standard issue weapons. In actually practice, it may be different than what's suppose to happen on paper.

SOCOM units can draw weapons from SOCOM or from the branch that SOCOM unit comes from.

Therefore, there is no need for US SOCOM to adopt the SIG M17/M18 because they can obtain them from the main branches.
~They can not obtain Glock pistols form the main branches, which is why US SOCOM adopted them as mission specific sidearms.
^The SOCOM RFP that resulted in the Glock pistols being adopted required a striker fired polymer framed pistol that was smaller than the Beretta M9 for covert operations.

Sure. I get it. But if they really thought the P320 was better I'm sure they could find a way to start using them. Instead, they are rolling with Glocks and they train with handguns a lot more than any of the other branches. Like a lot more.

Yeah that made me raise an eyebrow too, so I decided to see how hairy my M17 was. I also decided to check it next to a Gen 5 Glock, I picked my Gen 5 19 as it has very close to the same amount of rounds fired right around 3000. Also on the bench was my second Gen CZ P10c, although it has roughly 1000 less rounds fired. All were cleaned and oiled after they were last fired, so no carbon or fouling to mock up the test and all triggers are bone stock.

Results, an average after 3 pulls.

Not very hairy if you ask me.

Yes mine are stock. They are much lighter than my 365 and other striker fired pistols.

I'm still in the service and the Army's adopted the M17/M18. I've shot them and they're fine guns, but I really would have preferred they stuck with a tried and true gun: P226. That would have been a far superior service pistol, it's been around for a long time, and has a track record with most all known faults either documented or resolved.

It didn't come anywhere near the requirements. Look at the 320, the requirements seemed to be written to match.
