    The Handgun Written Test

If you flunk the written test can you take it again at a later date?

How long is a passed test valid for before you buy the gun?

An HSC is good for five years.

Sorry to be blunt but if you fail the HSC test, in my opinion, you have no business owning a gun. You can miss 7 out of 30 and pass.

If you are worried about it, then download the study guide from the DOJ BoF website or pick up the study guide at any gunshop that offers the test. Read it carefully and look at the sample questions at the end of each chapter.

Dude how many did you get wrong? The answers are pretty common sense

The HSC test is so simple, I can't believe anybody with a pulse can fail it...

Took me about 10 minutes (reading carfully) to get a perfect score.

I thought the same thing, told the sales person that i thought it was a waste of time. Then he showed me a test that was taken 10 minutes before I got there and that guy missed 16, don't ask me how.

I've been giving the HSC test for a little over 4 years now. I've seen two failures in probably over 200 tests. One was an Asian woman who didn't understand English. The other was a young man (with attitude) who missed 8 or 9. He then complained that the questions were misleading.

I've never had to take a HSC card test or have a HSC card

                  Welcome to the forum btw.

Yes, active military. a DD214 no longer counts as your HSC, you have to be currently serving

I took it even though I was exempt (remember to bring DOJ list of exemptions printout next time) and got a perfect score.

It seems like I upset a few people with my stupid question. I am sorry. I was just curious with my questions. I certainly agree that anyone who cannot pass that test has no business owning a gun. I am trying to get all my questions answered and my ducks in a row before I buy my Sig 220 gun. It has been a long time since I shot a pistol. World War II to be specific. I did shoot expert with the 45 at that time, but that was a long time ago and things sure have changed.

You didn't upset anyone...they just answered the question straight.

It's not a DMV test. It's a "which end does the bullet come out" type test.

                            And it's multiple choice.
