I had 2 failures to fire early with my FS9 that had the old "weaker" black striker, replacing it with the newer silver striker with a modified geometry and stronger factory spring fixed it. Those are the only failures I've had in a couple thousand rounds out of my FS9 and 9c.
My opinions are my own and do not represent the position of other companies I may be involved with.

A light strike could be the ammo.

A stove pipe with a loaded ammo was interesting but I have experienced it. It happened to my new HK p2000 when a female friend tried it on her first range session. I noticed it when I unjammed it for her.

My M&P9C has been rock solid. Just finished a range session using Bullet_Man911 reloads, Jack Ross reloads, and Federal Champion with no issues.

Try some different ammo and don't load your mags to the max until they loosen up. You should be good to go. If that doesn't work, send it back to S&W. Don't send them any mags and you should get a free mag when you get your pistol back

On another note, consider picking up some Apex Tactical parts for the M&P. You will be amazed what these parts will do for the M&P.

Well everyone I have a little update......
My wife was pretty upset with the reliability early on so we decided to go buy 200 rounds of pmc and head to the range no problems at all so I'm feeling a little better about it. Thanks for all your guys input. ^^ Apex parts are on my list shortly.

            I have the M&P 9, 9c, and 45.

Zero malfunctions on any of them.

Wow.. I think the OP might have gotten a RARE M&P Lemon. I have the M&P Full and compact. I have shot more than 1,000 rounds through each pistol. One dud round (100% ammo related, cheap lowest bidder shooting trailer ammo) with the Full size and zero malfunctions with the compact. I have carried both weapons on and off duty and I have total faith in them.

I have the M&P40c as my LTC gun. About 1,000 rounds through it without a single malfunction.

I've had my M&P .40C for over two years, several thousands round through it and never so much as a hiccup; never any fte, ftf, etc. I love it!

                    have the 40c
When i first got it i had 1k of wolf ammo already and it absolute hated it several fte cant remember exactly but it happened about ever 20 shots or so. Switched and tried other ammo brands (all brass) and they all run flawlessly. After firing a couple thousand rounds through i tried the wolf ammo again (still had some left) and it was better but still had 1 fte in about 150 rounds.
I clean my guns usually after ever range trip but i wanted to see how it did when it was "dirty". I only got up to about 700 or so rounds before cleaning it before a idpa style shoot. I didnt have a single issue.

One thing that bothers me though is the paint on the front sight fell out in the first 100 rounds, and both the backs have falling out now as well apparently its a known issue. I just put in some white nail polish and it hasent failed me yet, and has way out lived the factory paint life i got.

on a side note, i have the storm lake conversion barrel for 9mm as well and never had a issue with steel case ammo (i bought several boxes of varying brands to test it). I never use it any more though since i started reloading and shooting 9mm isent going to save me that much $ now any ways.

My agency just went to M&P .45s and I've been through the armorer course.

                      Two issues:

During your "thorough" cleaning did you get lube into the plastic bushing around the striker? It is white and you can see part of it behind the striker when you look at the underside of the slide. Lube in that area can attract debris and residue and cause the striker to drag. I was told by my instructor, who is the national LE sales rep, NOT to get any lube in that area.

Second, what type of ammo are you shooting? At least with the .45s, there is an issue with tight extractors that prevent rounds from completely chambering. Usually it is with bulk ammo where the rim thickness varies.

For me, it's with Speer .45 frangible.
