Split case

Shooting .44mag this weekend and had this happen. Went to unload spent brass and the extractor rod would not budge. Discovered one piece of brass did not want to eject. Had to force it out with a squib rod. This is what had happened and expanded enough in the cylinder to keep it from ejecting.

No visible cracks or anything around the case mouth and this split from the side. Reloaded brass, but only on the 3rd use. Rest of the brass looked fine. Unusual and no resulting safety issues. Round shot just like any other and I don't load hot.

Cases usually will harden when re-sized and eventually will split. Maybe you are belling the mouth too much?
