If you are going to go through the hassle of carrying, carry something worth carrying.

          agreed.....
definitely not a range pistol but a full box of 9mm reloads(6.5gr HS-6/124gr RN plated bullet) go down the pipe flawlessly once a week.

              IMO...
              Kel-Tec P-32 = best pocketgun

It's lighter and slightly smaller than the Kel-Tec P-3AT & Ruger LCP.
When loaded with 8 rounds of 73gr FMJ, it's feels lighter than a loaded Glock magazine.

I've owned my 1st gen Kel-Tec P-32 for about 8 years now, bought it used from a LEO ($300, included 2 holsters & 3 mags).
At the time of purchase, I compared it to the Beretta Model 3032 and found that the Kel-Tec was thinner, lighter, more durable and more reliable than the Beretta.
I have about 2000 rounds through it and the only malfunctions I've experienced with it was due to a faulty magazine (which Kel-Tec replaced for free). The LEO I bought it off of said he put about 1000 rounds through it and never had any problems with it. So, total round count is over 3000 rounds.

I pocket carry it in a DeSantis Nemesis pocket holster.

However, now that there are .380ACP pocketguns available, I still consider trading up to a Kel-Tec P-3AT or Ruger LCP. Since, the size difference is very very slight. But the cost of SSE and the CA premium for off-roster pistols, discourages me from doing so.

Ok, I'm big, as in large man and I had an LC9 and I'd say that while it can be front pocket carried you will be aware that it's there. My wife has a Bersa in 380 so for fun I compared them and they bassicly have the same footprint. I have a kahr but it's in 45 so way to big for this discussion but I will say that the quality is top notch and that even in a 45 it is a very slim gun.

Those super tiny 380 pistols usually hurt to fire. But they are last resort weapons or special use weapons, to be used when something bigger is not possible. So a little discomfort is worth it. Just bear in mind the smaller the gun, the less they absorb the recoil and the more you will feel it and the more difficult they will be to control in general.

The ones you meantioned are always brought up as winners along with the PPK. I've never fired them personally. I owned a Bersa Thunder 380. Had a bit of lip on the rear to protect from hammer bite, and some major/unique safety features (over kill actually) such as an internal gun lock. For what it was it was a nifty little gun. If I were in the market for gun that would be carried in a bag, it would be one I would consider again.

For regular holster carry I like the Glock 26 9mm. It is a little thicker than I like, but its got the Glock functionality and defensive size round, which is a major plups for me.

The new S&W M&P SHIELD 9MM looks impressive. Getting lots of love from some very picky reviewers online. Not sure how I feel about the safety on it. Need some trigger time before I decide how I feel about it. Not sure I will ever get it.

Ruger makes a long list of pocket carry 380s and small 9mms, as does Khar. I don't have a lot of experience with them. When investigating them there where little things that came up that I didn't like (don't exactly remember what they were) so I decided to stick with a Glock as my primary and CCW.

All comes down to what you plan to use them for as to which one shines the most. Personal preferrance plays a big roll as well.
+2 ive got a few hundred rounds through a friends bersa thunder. Theyre are great and very affordable. It amazes me how cheap it is for what seems like such a high quality little gun. Maybe a little heavy for how small they are but that could be a good thing. Very controllable recoil compared to lc9 and others.

Also loving the looks of the shield. I love my m&p9 fs and the compact was fairly comfortable to shoot so a slimmer more pocketable version sounds very appealing. I dont carry yet but when i do thatll be one of the first i look into.

Maybe im crazy but i like the idea of a thimb safety on a locked and loaded carry gun, as long as it clicks off easily enough.

Finally picked up a Ruger LCP at my local gun shop the other day. Got to say it's tiny. Put it in my pocket and almost forgot it was there. Big change from schlepping my G21 w/15+1 rounds of .45ACP. I used to carry the G21 just fine when I tipped the scales at 250lbs. Since I'm down to 220 now and heading for 200, there's no place to conceal the G21 anymore. I'm wearing smaller clothes now as befitting my smaller size and add to that my "concealment belly" is gone, so I had to get a smaller carry gun.

I have a decent Canon EOS 5D with the battery grip, lenses, whole nine yards, takes awesome pictures. Problem is, it's too big to carry everywhere, so I almost never have it with me. But I have a cellphone camera that's with me all the time. Not nearly as good a camera as the EOS 5D but since it's there, it gets the shot. The LCP is like that cellphone camera. No reason not to carry it everywhere all the time.

Haven't gotten to the range with the LCP yet but I imagine it's not any more harsh recoiling than my old Kahr PM9.

Of course I had to try out some accessories for it and take the obligatory photos with common household objects for size reference:

Pachmayr Tactical Grip Glove thickens up the grip a little for guys with gorilla mitts like mine. Slapped on a LaserMax CenterFire Laser since the milled sights of the LCP are pretty much invisible. I may apply some white or glow paint to those. I can see the reason for low profile to avoid snagging and milling them in to keep cost down but why Ruger didn't at least drill some dots into them is beyond me. Even in bright light it's hard to find the sight picture.

Still trying out various holsters but so far this Desantis Pro Stealth for CTC LaserGuard is the best one I've found, and it seems to fit the LaserMax which is close but not exactly the same dimensions as the more expensive Crimson Trace product. If I settle on this holster I'll be getting my wife's seam ripper out. The holster is designed to be ambidextrous, so they have that same leather patch on the other (non-clip) side, and since I'll never be using it lefty, it only adds more thickness where thickness is not needed. This holster also has an integral pouch for a spare 6-rd mag.

It's just a bit bigger than my 1980's vintage pocket calculator. Still pocket size though. I upgraded the base plate on the stock Ruger 6 round mag with a Pearce Grip Extension, and the feel in the hand is much improved. Grabbed some additional mags for range fun, 6, 10, and 15 round Promag magazines. I think a 7 or 8 round magazine with an integral polymer grip extender would be an awesome upgrade for the gun but I haven't found anyone who makes one.

In the winter I think this would be a great back up gun for the G21. I guess I'll be shopping for an ankle holster later in the year.

                              J-frame .357, loaded with .38 +P's.

With a pocket holster to break up the outline, it's PERFECT for cargo/academy shorts pockets and a t-shirt, be it a run to the beach, or the local Stop 'N' Rob for a gallon of milk.
