    Kahr .40, anyone?

I am looking for a smaller carry gun (than my Glock 26) and am seriously considering a Kahr PM40 or PM9. I have been told that their 9s are pretty reliable but not the .40s. Anyone out there have any experience with Kahr? A buddy of mine has a P9 and he loves it.

I have a MK40 and a PM9. The MK40 imo has a better build quality, but it is also 9 ounces heavier. For a belt gun I would go for the all steel gun, but for a pocket or ankle gun the lighter weight wins out. I'm of the opinion that the 9mm is a more shootable choice in the polyguns because the .40 S&W is a pretty snappy round, although I say that having never fired a PM40.

      Brass Balls,

I know I am a newb and therefore don't warrent much in the worthiness column.

However do yourself a favor and check the subdivision on Glock Talk for Kahr. It will be very informative. They have had problems with QC, however thier reputation for repairing arms is very good. My issue is two fold. I hope to not send in a Carry weapon for work to be done by the factory......it just doesn't sit well with me.

Two I did some research on the owner of the company....................that sealed the deal for me. I am not going to get into too much detail but the information is out there for you to make your decision.

Had a K40 for a couple years. It was very reliable until it broke a trigger spacer (no, I don't know what that is, the factory told me that's what happened). Kahr fixed it no charge. Was reliable again after that. You have to keep them clean and lubed, and you have to like recoil- shooting full power 155s or 165s felt about like shooting 158s out of my 442.
Dr. Goldstein showed us the way. We dropped the ball. Pick up the ball.

            Reliability vs. Recoil

I'm not really that concerned with recoil. My biggest issue is with reliability and being the long time owner of several Glocks, I guess my expectations are pretty high.

Here is a post I just made about it....

                No shiny guns for me.

That is a very nice gun bu-bye; I would proabably jump at the chance to take it off your hands (or whoever currently owns it) if it wasn't stainless. Nothing personal, and I don't want to step on anyone's toes or insult anyones sensibilities, but my guns MUST be black. I have a serious personal hangup (admittedly neurotic, I know) against stainless or nickel or any shiny metal on guns. If they aren't matt finished and all black, I'm not interested.

I know JUST how you feel. My safe is FULL of black rifles, pistols and shotguns. The kahr was the only the second gun I bought that was not black. I do a little gunsmithing and a polish job was somthing I never tried and the K40 was looking plain. It was my first polish job and I think I did a nice job.

If I do run into $500 and she is still for sale I'l be buying it back. I put a lot of time into that pistol.

Well it definitely shows. It looks like you did a good job on it.

Hello, look at me I'm a new guy. I just ordered a Kahr PM9. It's still at the FFL's making sure I'm not mad. Anyway, I looked into the owner of Kahr because the comment by another poster got me wondering. Here you go.

I can understand why some would turn away at that. I however do not regret my purchase.

I looked at the Kahr, but like the HK P2000sk more. It's a larger gun, but I love HK and really didn't like the feel of the Kahr. Just personal preference.

I don't want to make any assumptions about your age.... but my dad gave me two handguns 30 years ago and one of them is nickel plated. Whenever I take it out of the safe (to reminisce; he's been gone for a long time & I never shoot it any more.) it reminds me of something an old guy would like. I'm no spring chicken myself, but stainless/nickel/wood grips/etc... sends me running in the opposite direction.

Just because the guy is a Moonie?!? Please; do we know (or even care about) the religous beliefs of anyone else who sells/manufactures/designs guns?
