    SIG P220 Trouble

Hey guys, I've had my P220 for almost 3 years and never had a problem till now. The other day I had some errands to run around town so I grabbed my sig out of the safe, checked to see if it was loaded and then chambered a round. As the round went into the chamber the slide partially stuck open... so I dropped the clip and cleared the chamber... repeated this process with the same problem... I've never had this happen to me. I will admit that im slacking in the cleaning dept. Maybe my sig doesnt have enough oil, any thoughts?

    Well, then clean it!

Next, use grease on the slide not oil. That's why Sig gives you a small tube of grease with a new gun. Rule of thumb: if it spins, oil it, if it slides grease it.

How many rounds through it. I have a p220, and when the round count got past 3000, the recoil spring was noticably weak. A good sign of this is how far it is throwing the brass when fired. With the weak spring, mine was tossing brass 15 to 20 feet behind me. New spring cut that distance in half. Depending on round count or the type of ammo you use (+P etc.), you could have a weakened recoil spring.

Different ammo than what you have been using? Look there too if so.

It is most likely a lubrication issue. If it was a design or fit issue then you would have seen it the first time you shot it.

Disassemble, regrease the rails then reassemble.

Try it with different bullets first, as it is possible your current ones have setback issues.

Relube your sig at least every 3 months. Sigs don't work when dry.

Either he didn't understand what he was told or the person who told him what the problem was didn't understand it either.

The wear on the barrel hood is normal, just like the smiles near the muzzle of the barrel, and has nothing to do with the slide going into battery. Even if the barrel wasn't correctly fitted, it wouldn't have anything to do with the extractor not grabbing the case rim.

If he had any idea what he was talking about, he'd also know that the extractor grabs the case rim as soon as the casehead comes out of the magazine lips
