Rented a Sig 229 aiming issues

I was at the range yesterday and shot about 120 rounds through my Glock 22. I then took out the rented Sig and aimed it just as I had my Glock and was hitting on center but about 8" low. Once I compensated for this things went better. This was my first time ever shooting a Sig so my question is, is this typical or could it have been an issue with the range rental gun. I have been on the fence about picking up a SP2022 and if this is what I can expect with that gun it would be a deal breaker.

Could be that your not used to the trigger? My first handgun was a double/single and I was shooting pretty damn low(& left) my first range trip. I kept getting better the more I practiced.

In my experience, most rental guns aren't the best well kept machines.

Sig uses a different sight arrangement. There was a post like this last week. When the 3 dots line up, your center dot is where the bullet is going. With Glocks your lining up all 3 too, but your POI is typically a tad higher. With Sig you have to cover the bullseye unless you went with alternate branded sights or switched them out for different heights with Sig.

That said, this was a rental gun. I dont ever expect them to run well or hit anything. No matter what the brand or model is.

Had the exact same issue as you. Last Thursday, I rented a Beretta M9A1 and put about 30-40 rounds through it. Holes ended up about where I expected them to be (for my limited handgun experience). Switched over to a Sig 226 .40 and everytime I squeezed the trigger I was surprised where the round ended up. Definitely felt like I was shooting low. I chalked it up to being a rental, being a higher caliber round, and/or user error. Even tried switching it up so I was covering the target with the front sight and still ended up with very pretty holes about 4-5 inches below what I was trying to hit.

I'm sure it's not a problem inherit in the gun itself. There's no way it would achieve the status it has if there was some kind of inherent flaw in it's design. Questionable rental gun, my lack of experience, and just not being used to it more likely culprit.

P226 and M9 both use a combat sight picture. i've heard that glocks use a 6 o'clock hold, but I'm not too sure.

could be a rental gun issue as well.

I own both Glock and Sig. The Sig, which I was brought up on and that sight particular sight picture, you would cover the bullseye. I hate saying that since I never shoot targets, a always shoot silhouettes.

The Glock hits just slightly above the center dot when there lined up. I prefer Sig's since that makes the most sense to me but I'm well aware it can be a disadvantage at small targets and at longer ranges.
