    Sig 226 problem?

My Sig 226 slide is not locking back after the last round has been fired. The gun only has about 600 rounds through it and started about 100 rounds ago. What is causing this and how can I fix it? I prefer not to have to sent it to Sig.

    Have you tried different magazines?

You could be using too much lube on the slide rails and the slide is not fully cycling back.

This may sound dumb but it may also be your grip. When I hold my 226 I tend to rest my thumb on the slide release, which sometimes does not let it catch.

Might be an ammo problem. What brand ammo are you using, were using? Most new Sigs have a very stiff recoil spring and failure to lock back after last round is somewhat common for the first two hundred rounds every no and then. But you say that it started about 500 rounds ago so it didn't happen when new? Is the gun new or used? If you are using the same exact ammo now as you did then, the problem maybe the magazine springs being weak to push the follower up high enough to activate the slide catch lever. Are the magazines new or used? Also watch your thumb placement when shooting. Alot of people ride the sldie catch lever.

I would assume its a bad magazine (follower not coming up all the way to hit mag catch)

Try shooting it left-handed. If it locks back, you might be hitting the slide release with your thumb when shooting it right-handed (did you recently change your grip?). If it still doesn't lock back, mark your mags and see if it fails to lock back w/ all mags or one in particular. Might be a faulty follower, might be a faulty slide release. Go in the order listed above to eliminate the least expensive causes first.

                  Good luck.

make sure the area between the slide lock and the frame(in the mag well) is clean as carbon build up can and will cause binding.

Simply take off the slide and move the slide lock with your hand and see if it drags.

I sent my Sig back 3 times for nothing because of this. Try loading just one in the magazine and shoot one handed. Repeat 10 times and I bet it will lock back every time. I use the thumbs foward grip and it just does not work on Sigs, Glock and HK's. Even resting or touching the slide release a little will cause that problem. Good luck, Sammy

I have owned Sigs for many years. My guess would be you are using a magazine that will not allow the slide to lock back. After market mags do this all the time with semi-autos, regardless of brand, because they are not made of the same quality as an original mag.

If you are using Sig mags make sure they are clean. If they get to dirty they will not allow the follower to come all the way to the top and the slide will not lock back. This is faily common with less expensive and dirty ammo. Also, like said above, make sure your slide release and mag release areas of the gun are clean. Lastly, IMHO, would be your grip. Be sure your thumb(s) are not in contact with the slide release.

The gun was purchased new and is the Blackwater edition so it came with 5 mags and all 5 are having the problem. I have tried different ways of holding the grips making sure not to hit the slide catch lever and it still is happening. It will lock back when I cycle a few snapcaps through it with no problem. The slide catch does seem a bit sticky. It will sometimes get stuck in the up position when the slide is off and I push it up. I have cleaned between the lever and the frame to make sure its not from build up.

The slide release should move freely. After cleaning it put a drop of good lube on it. Do you have access to compressed air? If so, after cleaning spray that area with it while activating the release. There may be a piece of carbon or whatnot in there that is causing it to bind a bit.
