S&W Shield

So one of the kids that works for me comes running today telling me about some handgun that I need to buy and it's under $400. I pulled up some information on it, and it states they will be making a California compliant model.......but is it out yet? (fyi-used the search engine and nothing)

California model has been submitted, should be available before the end of the year.

They had it on the Shooting Gallery show tonight. I didn't catch the whole test, but it appears that response was favorable. It's small, very thin, and good looking. That formula used to work for Robert Conrad, so it will probably sell.

My local shop has one through SSE. I held it, felt pretty good. The trigger seemed pretty crisp and the grip was very comfortable. The shop had it for 450, but that was including their SSE fee.

From what I've seen recently with S&W and Ruger submitting guns for approval onto the CA roster, it's taking a good 3-4 months before they're approved and available to CA residents.

Therefore, I'd expect (and assume) that the Shield will be available in CA for everyone to purchase around summer time.

I wonder this... do the manufacturers produce a limited run of guns for CA approval and wait for that approval prior to large scale manufacturing? I would think so. If this is the case, it might take several months to get that approval and then several more months for the CA approved models to be manufactured.

So, my money says that while DOJ approval might come in 3-4 months, we won't see roster approved pistols in stores until the end of 2012 or early 2013.

Well there will be at least one difference. The gun out now does not have a magazine disconnect. At least that will have to be added to be CA compliant. That is a very minor deal so hopefully it won't take S&W long to release.

I do not care for compacts, but I really like this gun. Might have to pick one up for the wife. Where is that shop that is doing SSE? If we do a PPT from someone out of state is that ok?

I never liked M&Ps before - because I hated the trigger.

But, the SHield is sweet. Love the trigger. Even sold my PM9...

The Shield shoots soft, like a much larger gun
