What yall think? I've always planned on getting a G21 but seems the M&P is really getting good reviews. I held one last week and it just felt right. The G21 was a little big and blocky. Now I love glocks but I'm thinking the M&P45 would be a nice addition. That Dark Earth model sure looks sexy. I actually want the model with the safety just so I can put my thumb on it 1911 style. Don't want a safety and would never use it but my thumb love riding on something.

Thoughts on M&P 45

OK I'll bite. I looked at the M&P 45 with thumb safety and really liked it. I ended up going with the Ruger SR40c as I did not have a .40 cal., but the M&P 45 remains on my short list. Really neat gun.
I agree with you about the safety. I just don't buy into the Glock Kool-aid that a slide safety does not add safety.Come and Take It!

My M&P's are comfortable, accurate, reliable, and fun to shoot. The trigger is not a 1911 trigger, but I did not have a hard time getting used to it. It also smooths out after a few hundred yards.
M&P .45 - Highly recommended..

I am in the same boat as you are. For many years, I owned 1911s, and used to own a high cap Glock 17 back in the early 90s (got rid of it several years back). What yall think? I was never enthused with the polymer type of guns, but 3 weeks back, I was browsing at an LGS, and the M&Ps picked my curiosity. I examined one, and I was quite taken by how it feels in the hand. While polymer, it did not have that " cheap " sensation that I remember from my early model Glock.
It also felt well-made and had a higher quality feel of craftsmanship. I am warming to them and might consider getting one in the future.Comment

I've got one in jail right now (3 more days!), but I've put about 10K rounds through my .40 M&P's... one compact, one fullsize.
All in all, they are excellent guns. They eat anything, and you can shoot lead/plated/FMJ, whatever. The fully supported chamber means reload all you want without fear (though this isn't an issue for .45 in a glock being lower pressure).
The Apex upgrades make the trigger pretty nice, though you'll never have as distinct a reset as you do on a glock.
You can also easily remove the thumb safety if you like, as well as take out the magazine safety if that's your thing.
I'd say get your hands on one and put a box or two through it and see how you like it. If you're in the bay area, PM me and we can hit Reed's some time.
Or... buy a brand new dark earth one, and if you don't like it, sell it to me for 60 cents on the dollar.

HAHA Thanks for the offer Jason. I have a local range that rents I'll see if they have one. I did a lot of reading and youtubing on the Apex FSS and trigger kit and that looks like the icing on the cake. Not a fan of the 2 part trigger so Apex solves that and give a nice clean and reduced pull.Comment

The M&P is the only full size polymer .45 I like, so I would say buy it.What yall think? I've always planned on getting a G21 but seems the M&P is really getting good reviews. +1 for the M&P.
I think I'm going to try to find one of the compact M&P 45's and a M&P shield in .40 in the near future. Go for the FDE one too they look nice.NRA Endowment Life Member

You might want to try a G21SF. I didn't like the standard G21, either - it felt like holding a brick. It's amazing what a small change in grip size does. Then I'd select whichever one felt better in my hand.I'm retired. That's right, retired. I don't want to hear about the cop who stopped you today or how you didn't think you should get a ticket. That just makes me grumpy!Comment

+1 for the 21SF - or the gen4, lot nicer in the hand than the standard version. The M&P feels good in hand but loses in mag capacity (10+1) to the Glocks' 13+1....Comment
