    Kimber??

Hey everyone, I just got a beautiful USP compact and have been on the hunt for another pistol. I have always loved to look and feel of 1911s..so I went into my local gun shop and one caught my eye I held it and instantly knew it was the one I wanted, it didn't have a price so I asked (afraid to hear the price) the guy told me its $750. I was shocked a KIMBER for under a grand?!?

My question to you all is this, I'm new to 1911s and have a budget of $800 and lower, I've had my eye on the Kimber Custom II but don't know much about it. Anyone have experience with it? Also what other 1911 should I take a look at?

Kimber Custon II was my first 1911...Regret selling it...thank god I have 4 others...

I sold my used Custom II to another Cal Guns member for $750. Good price for a good gun.

The only reason I was hesitant on the Kimber was because the guy who sold me my HK said Kimber quality is going down hill and they are being mass produced so that's why it's so much cheaper. I always do my own research before taking someone at their word so id like to know from people who've owned one

You can certainly check out Springfield too, but for the lower 1911 money for an off the manufacturing floor 1911, Kimber can be a good choice too. No problem on that, plenty of happy people. Plenty of what is on the internet is of course amplified by the negative more than the good.

This was my experience as well. If you plan to carry, its not the best option because the steel frame is very heavy and would make an uncomfortable carry gun. Instead go for an aluminum frame version. However, if carry is not a concern, then get it. The steel frame weight helps reduce recoil and it is one heck of a gun.

plenty of mixed reviews about kimber...but all that i have shot including my own has been nearly 100% ... only issue mine had was finish...funcionality wise, its great!

edit: 3 of my buddies has a custom 2 and mine is a raptor 2
only mine (that i know of) has had the finish issues.

by a buddy that works at a lgs, said that the finish issue is not isolated to just my weapon, they have had to send pistols back, all it did was sit in the display cases

I have a Custom II and for the money and what you get, its the best bang for the buck. I've never had an issue and I shoot steel cased ammo through it.

I've had two issues with my custom II, the slide stop was out of spec and the slide locked back early. I called kimber and a replacement was sent really quickly. And the other day I noticed the barrel had a small amount of rust, which is a known problem and buII***** as far as I'm concerned... No gun should have a bare metal barrel
I'm at about 500 rds with no feeding or ejection problems at all

All in all, I'm very happy with the gun, it's shoots like a dream!

3000 rounds through mine, and i've never had issues. I did, however, opt for the tritium nightsights. That put my custom II around $950.

I own two and LOVE them! They are the best 1911 around. Ive had mine for about ten years and put about 5000 rounds down her. The gun feeds everything i feed it. From semi waddcutters to steel cases. You will not be disappointed.

Just bought my Kimber (Ultra CDP ll) about 6 weeks ago, paid $950 (+tax) along with some extra goodies. Have been extremely happy with it so far, with about 200 rds through it.

Couldn't believe my luck in getting this gun for under $1K, and took it home with me the night I saw it!

Having the finished edges etc on this make it really nice as a carry!
