    Springfield Champion question

I am helping a co-worker sell his Springfield Champion 1911. My problem is that since it is not my gun I don't know much about it i.e. how much he got it for, how much they normally go for used, etc... So my question is what is a good price to list this gun for in the marketplace? It has probably 400-700 rounds through it and a few small scratches here and there from normal use and handling.

Also he forwarded me some receipts for parts that it has in it and they add up to around $300 in extras (mostly Ed Brown stuff). I know upgrading guns is like upgrading cars and you rarely get your money back from upgrades and not everyone has the same style you might have. Just wanted to add that it has money invested in it.

A Loaded Champion can be had for as little as $800 brand new, and personally, I price things based on supply and demand, so how common is it to find a Champion on the shelf at the local gun store?

Not common, I might ask for close to what I paid. Common, I might ask for a $100 less than I paid, and hope that my definition of normal use and handling matches the buyers definition of normal use and handling.

$300 in Ed Brown parts? I'd be interested in who fitted the parts. If Jim Hoag, Alan Tanaka, or Chuck Rogers fitted the parts, I'd definitely see additional value there, but be prepared to have invoices. If we're talking about parts that require no fitting like a slide stop, an extended magazine well or something as simple as new grips, I'd see no additional value. However, most see value in additional magazines.

Good stuff gentlemen. I guess I have enough feedback to make a for sale thread.

With the vertical serrations, that would indicate it came out from Springfield a G.I. model.

        That looks nicely upgraded.

I have seen one for $1200+ at the LGS. This one looks like it has the upgrades that I would want. Knowing what is out there new and used these days, I would probably pay $800-$900 for it.

Yep, I noticed it was a GI Champion (sub $600 brand new) after he updated the thread with pictures.

Whoever fit, blended and contoured the beavertail did a fantastic job.

You'd be paying way too much.

Was it a GI Champion, Loaded Champion, Champion Operator, etc?

I paid $650 for a used stainless SA Loaded Champion that was on consignment at my gun club, last year. It was in about the same shape as yours.
