    Need help with new handgun

    Hey Guys,

I am looking for a new handgun. I am in the process of getting a Ruger 22/45 but need a centerfire handgun to go with it. The only handguns I've managed to pick up, shoot and hit the 10 ring on the first try were the CZ 75B in 9mm, a Kimber TLE in .45ACP (naturally), a Glock 17, and a Glock 22. I'll be honest, when I shot the Glocks I was a little to the left, but that's because of my stupid trigger finger.

I have some experience with handguns. My German Sig p226 is a beautiful piece, but I can't hit crap with it, sad to say.

What do you think I should get if I want to keep it under $800, keeping in mind the cost of ammo and training classes. Personally, I'm leaning towards either a 1911 in 9mm (if I can find one), a CZ SP01 (If I can find that), or a RIA Tactical going for $499 at Rancho Cordova Shooting Center.

I appreciate all the input. Thank you

Since you've shot the CZ75 and like it, try finding a CZ SP-01.

You're unlikely to find a 9mm 1911 for under $800. The Sigs are great guns but I don't shoot them worth a damn either. Not sure why.

It's pretty hard to go wrong with a Glock 17, or maybe even a Springfield XD. If you liked the CZ, maybe look at a Beretta 92.

Try out the followings if you're comfortable with CZ 75B:

        - Taurus PT92
        - Beretta 92FS or M9 (indoor shooting range)
        - CZ 75 SP01
        - Do an SSE on 1911 9mm for less than $800 total (read the sticky for "SSE")

The gun with the closest grip angle to the Ruger 22/45 is the 1911, then the SIG 226 and the CZ.

The Glocks have a closer grip angle to the regular Ruger 22.

I would never try to talk someone out of buying another pistol, but if you'd like learn to shoot the 226 well, drop me a PM...I'm local and it's cheaper than buying another gun

Id go cz or m&p in your price range. If you stretch it enough id definitely go 9mm 1911.

I got an M&P9 in jail right now...I really fell in love with that gun. Its worth taking a look at. I held everything before finally deciding. Even had a kimber 1911 but the M&P 9 just feels so good in the hand.

Hmmmm... spend the $ and learn to use the tool that you have, instead of buying more tools :0)

                  But seriously... I vote Glock.
